About The Position

The Target Security Specialist helps keep guests, team members, and the Target brand secure while supporting an easy, inspiring, and friendly shopping experience. The role promotes a culture of physical security, assesses and maintains safe standards throughout the store and exterior property, responds to and documents security incidents, and supports theft prevention and recovery in accordance with Assets Protection (AP) policies. Specialists use de-escalation tactics, Target’s video surveillance system, case management systems, and other technology to respond to incidents and help mitigate shortage risks. The role also includes guest-service responsibilities, assisting peers, adapting to business needs, and working safely in a fast-moving, physically active environment. Training is provided. The schedule is flexible and may include varying hours and shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet any state or local licensure and other legal requirements related to the position.
Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
Ability to communicate using multiple-frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
Ability to climb up and down ladders.
Ability to apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise safely and efficiently, including frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and to work scheduled shifts and take required meal and rest breaks.
Ability to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain duties.
Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift, which may vary in length.

Responsibilities

Create a friendly guest experience by greeting guests, helping them find items or resolve issues, and thanking them at the end of transactions.
Support team efforts and assist peers in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
Adjust to business and guest needs to provide an easy and inspiring guest experience.
Assess and maintain safe and secure standards throughout the store, including exterior property.
Respond to security incidents and guest issues in a timely and appropriate manner, and document incidents accurately.
Use de-escalation tactics and available resources when responding to security incidents.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed, following AP policies.
Perform merchandise receipt checks at the front of the store to prevent theft and shortage, and recognize and communicate trends.
Submit incident documentation in the case management system in accordance with AP policy and procedures.
Understand and appropriately use Target’s video surveillance system.
Demonstrate ethical conduct and a culture of safety and compliance; follow safety policies, report hazards, and correct them where possible.
Perform other duties based on business needs.
