About The Position

The Tap and Drill Setup/Operator supports production by setting up, running, and troubleshooting tapping and drilling equipment that produces sheet metal and fabricated components to customer specifications. This role involves ensuring that components meet customer specifications through precise operation and maintenance of specialized machinery.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Blueprint/drawing interpretation and basic computer record-keeping
  • Experience with measuring tools and sheet metal fabrication processes

Responsibilities

  • Setting up and operating tapping/drilling and related secondary equipment
  • Installing and fine-tuning taps, drills, fixtures, and tooling
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders
  • Verifying hole size, thread form, and critical dimensions using calipers, micrometers, and thread gauges
  • Completing in-process checks and documenting production/quality results
  • Addressing tooling, machine, and part-quality issues
  • Performing routine preventive maintenance while following all safety procedures
  • Reviewing the schedule and print package
  • Confirming correct material and tooling are staged
  • Monitoring cycle consistency
  • Making small offsets or tooling adjustments as needed
  • Keeping inspection notes current
  • Coordinating with teammates on priorities
  • Responding quickly to any quality concerns
  • Keeping work area organized to maintain efficient part flow
  • Completing required documentation
  • Communicating status to the next operation
  • Leaving equipment ready for the following run
