About The Position

The Tailor’s primary responsibility is to repair garments to selling standards and to operate on sewing equipment. Perform other duties as necessary. Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, while part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12-24 hours per week. All schedules contain weekend shifts as part of the requirements. Hours are dependent on business needs and colleague availability.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior experience a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate and share information with diverse groups
  • Must be able to understand and communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Must be able to read and understand employment policies and safety rules/procedures in English
  • Resourceful and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Resourceful self-starter, works well independently as well as part of a team, and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic repairs on garments including, but not limited to, sleeves, backs, sides, collars and bodices, inserting shoulder pads, altering waists, taking out hems to lengthen, shortening lengths, and adding cuffs.
  • Do minor repairs to garments by replacing buttons, mending seams, and fixing hem.
  • Provide an exceptional service by ensuring high quality repairs for end customers.
  • Press and steam garments before returning back to stock.
  • Be knowledgeable of styles, fits, and fabrics to execute best repairs.
  • Maintain records for alterations department.
  • Inform team leader or manager of supply needs that arise in daily operations.
  • Follows shortage programs and procedures.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
