About The Position

The Johns Hopkins University, Department of Emergency Medicine, Division of Special Operations is seeking a qualified and motivated physician, board-eligible or board-certified in emergency medicine, to join the Division as a Tactical Medicine fellow starting July 1, 2027. The Tactical Medicine Fellowship is a two-year, non-ACGME accredited, Advanced Specialty Training Program (ASTP) in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, located in Baltimore, Maryland. The fellowship is designed to provide emergency physicians with a comprehensive educational experience in the complex nature of tactical and operational medicine. The fellowship program focuses on mentorship in physician leadership, medical control, and on-scene medical support through partnerships with multiple local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The program offers direct field experience in tactical, protective, and special event environments. The fellow has a clinical requirement of 800 hours per academic year as an attending emergency physician. Potential clinical sites include the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center.

Requirements

  • Board-eligible or board-certified in emergency medicine
  • Demonstrated prior interest and engagement in pre-hospital emergency medical care and/or tactical medicine
  • Ability to pass a criminal background investigation
  • Eligibility for a United States national security clearance
  • Possess the psychomotor skills and physical fitness to operate in austere environments
