About The Position

Dr. Maliha Zahid's lab is seeking a Research Fellow. This post-doctoral research fellow will work with novel cell penetrating peptides that target the lungs, conduct small animal experiments, set up and perform routine lab procedures, establish mouse models of heart failure, maintain lab notebooks, assist with laboratory upkeep, and contribute to manuscript and grant preparation.

Requirements

Experience with cell penetrating peptides that target the lungs.
Experience with small animal (mouse) experiments including tail vein injections, organ harvest for ex-vivo IVIS imaging, cryoembedding, cryosectioning, immunostaining, and confocal microscopy.
Experience with cell/tissue culture, RNA extraction, qPCR, FACS experiments.
Experience establishing two-and three-hit mouse models of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
Experience performing echocardiography in mice.
Experience with RNA extraction for downstream RNA sequencing.
Ability to maintain lab notebooks, update protocols, summarize data, and present findings.
Ability to assist with the upkeep of the laboratory including equipment maintenance and inventory and ordering of supplies/reagents.
Ability to assist with manuscript preparation and grant preparation.

Responsibilities

Working with novel cell penetrating peptides that target the lungs, with a family of lung targeting peptides that target different cell types.
Small animal (mouse) experiments including tail vein injections, organ harvest for ex-vivo IVIS imaging, cryoembedding, cryosectioning, immunostaining, and confocal microscopy.
Setting up and performing routine lab procedures in support of lab goals, including cell/tissue culture, RNA extraction, qPCR, FACS experiments.
Establishing two-and three-hit mouse models of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, perform echocardiography in mice, as well as perform RNA extraction for downstream RNA sequencing.
Maintaining lab notebooks, updating protocols, summarizing data, and presenting at lab meetings, institutional seminars, and national/international meetings.
Assisting with the upkeep of the laboratory including equipment maintenance and inventory and ordering of supplies/reagents.
Assisting with manuscript preparation, submission, etc. as a lead author, and assisting with preparation of grants.
