About The Position

Intergalactic, now part of Unison, a GE Aerospace Company, is seeking a Systems Thermal Analyst. This role provides analytical modeling capabilities to the systems engineering team by leading component and system level trade studies and working with systems engineers to develop a system architecture to meet customer requirements. The Systems Thermal Analyst will lead and execute thermal modeling and analysis efforts in cooperation with the Program Management team. This role is responsible for performance requirements compliance assessment, interpreting and analyzing test data, synthesizing test data and correlating system models, and building up and maintaining system models and model libraries. The analyst will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary project team including experts in thermal/aerospace analysis, installation, mechanical design and analysis, reliability, controls, electronics and software, and testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university + Minimum of 2-3 years of thermal fluids experience (OR a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 6-7 years of experience)
  • Working knowledge of key aerospace technical disciplines including requirements management, technical verification and validation methodologies, mechanical design, materials, modeling/documentation, structural analysis, electrical systems, system controls, embedded controls, development testing and analysis, qualification analysis and testing.
  • Deep expertise in the thermal fluid sciences including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Experience and expertise in thermal fluid systems analysis and modeling including understanding of nonlinear, gradient and gradient free numerical iterative solvers and optimization techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship building both internally and externally.
  • Familiarity of aerospace requirements management methodologies and processes – traceability, decomposition, derivation verification, and validation.
  • Functional understanding of major aircraft systems: environmental control systems, powerplant, electrical, hydraulics, controls, avionics, power generation, and structures.
  • Experience with Vapor Cycle Systems (VCS), Liquid Cooling Systems (LCS) and/or Air Cycle Systems (ACS)
  • Modeling experience and working knowledge of the physics of standard components in VCS, LCS, and ACS such as heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, valves, motor and motor controllers, water collectors/separators, etc.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing and qualification methods such as MIL-STD-810 and DO-160
  • Basic CAD experience (preferably in NX or SolidWorks).
  • Deep understanding of coding/scripting experience (preferably in MATLAB/Simulink or Python).
  • Expertise building, using, correlating, and maintaining steady state and dynamic system modeling and architecting high level controls.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the System Engineer with developing the program’s system architecture and technical approach, including thermal and controls analysis and testing, and test analysis as it relates to system model correlation and performance requirements compliance assessment during development and verification and validation.
  • Identifying and managing the program’s technical risks as it pertains to thermal performance.
  • Serving as technical lead for modeling and analysis, providing clear objectives that are measurable and attainable, and coordinating modeling and analysis activities with other engineering functional groups.
  • Working closely with the Systems Engineer and Program Manager to ensure successful execution of modeling, analysis, and testing development for programs.
  • Managing thermal and performance technical requirements and assisting the program Systems Engineer in their requirements traceability, decomposition, derivation, and verification & validation.
  • Allocating and decomposing high-level requirements into lower-level specifications to internal functional groups, components, and suppliers as applicable for thermal and performance requirements.
  • Researching and recommending investments or changes in technology, methodology, toolsets, procedures, equipment, systems, etc. to continually improve the discipline health and the Intergalactic’s products and services.
  • Communicating and collaborating with customers and suppliers as part of the design development process.
  • Reviewing and approving documentation for transition from prototype to production.
  • Providing engineering support to troubleshoot and diagnose non-performing products (RCCA, lessons learned, etc.).
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
