United Launch Alliance•Pueblo, CO
•$77,899 - $129,831•Onsite

About The Position

The Systems Test Engineer participates in testing at United Launch Alliance’s Pueblo Prop Shop, ULA’s primary testing facility. The facility designs and conducts critical development and qualification tests for components and systems used in orbital launch vehicles and the Vulcan rocket. Testing includes structural, dynamic (shock and vibration), cryogenic compatibility, high-pressure pneumatics and flow, destructive and non-destructive, and electrical testing. The engineer works as part of a team to design and achieve test goals, balancing hands-on test setup and testing with conceptual design and team coordination. Tests may last from a few weeks to several months, depending on size and complexity. The role also involves assembling and testing flight hardware in a production environment to verify functionality and workmanship, identify anomalies and non-conformances, and confirm the product will perform in flight as intended by its design. The position offers opportunities to gain project management, test engineering, and leadership experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Industrial, or similar Engineering or Science field.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling using NX, Autodesk, or Solidworks.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics or hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of statics and dynamics.
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Experience with blueprint technical drawings.
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR because the position requires access to ITAR-controlled information.

Nice To Haves

  • Cryogenics experience, including liquid nitrogen, hydrogen, or oxygen.
  • Previous test lab experience.
  • Structural analysis experience.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics.
  • Advanced electrical knowledge.
  • Programming or coding experience in C++, Python, or LabVIEW.
  • Experience with instrumentation, transducers, and data acquisition systems, including pressure sensors, load cells, strain gauges, LVDTs, thermocouples, RTDs, Dewetron, Dewesoft, or National Instruments data collection systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team to design and achieve test goals.
  • Gather requirements for assigned tests from technical documents and through coordination with test directors and customers.
  • Develop test setups that satisfy requirements and mimic flight-like conditions the test article may experience during a vehicle’s flight to orbit.
  • Balance hands-on test setup construction and testing with conceptual design and team management.
  • Apply engineering knowledge and expertise to project work, including technological considerations, cost and financial administration, and schedule management.
  • Assemble and test flight hardware to verify functionality and workmanship, identify anomalies and non-conformances, and ensure it will work in flight as designed.

Benefits

  • 401(k) match plus an additional employer contribution.
  • Discretionary annual incentive bonus for eligible employees.
  • Generous paid time off.
