Systems Test and Integration Engineer

Rivian and Volkswagen Group TechnologiesIrvine, CA

About The Position

As a Systems Test and Integration Engineer, you will play a critical role in our vehicle development lifecycle, integrating and validating software systems from early prototypes through to customer launch. You will be the link between hardware and software as we integrate our zonal architectures and systems into both Rivian's and Volkswagen Group's future vehicles. This hands-on role requires the ability to navigate systematically across domain groups — battery management, body controls, vehicle dynamics, and thermal. The ideal candidate has strong system intuition, enabling them to make critical real-time decisions that accelerate development, expand testing capabilities, and mitigate program risk. You will be a versatile problem-solver, comfortable diving into unfamiliar technical domains and translating domain-level issues into system-wide impacts.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Software Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience with control systems — automotive or aerospace preferred
  • Hands-on experience with communication bus monitoring tools (Vector CANalyzer, PCAN, or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience with software calibration tools (Vector CANape or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of electromechanical systems
  • Familiarity with EV subsystems, particularly battery management, body controls, vehicle dynamics, and thermal
  • Proficiency in Python and C/C++
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and apply creative, critical thinking to deliver exceptional results
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach

Responsibilities

  • Work on code changes, developing and executing test plans for new features and improvements to the ever evolving software stack for our products
  • Own end-to-end software bring-up for your domain group, from early prototypes phase to launch
  • Define and execute integration activities for new features
  • Lead the diagnosis of field issues, working cross-functionally to drive resolutions
  • Triage, debug, and perform root-cause analysis on complex, system-level integration issues spanning multiple ECUs and software domains
  • Dive deep into unfamiliar ECU and vehicle subsystem domains and software stacks to resolve integration blockers and ensure system stability
  • Collaborate directly with architecture, platform, and application developers to define and resolve software dependencies
  • Drive automation pipelines for vehicle software validation
  • Gather data from embedded communication systems such as CAN and Ethernet, as well as from cloud-based vehicle telemetry

Benefits

  • competitive base salary
  • annual company performance bonus program
  • equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
  • health coverage
  • retirement savings
