About The Position

Building Controls and Services, Inc. (BCS) is an HVAC and building automation company founded in 1985, serving Kansas and Western Missouri. The company provides heating and air conditioning, building automation, energy management, and indoor air quality solutions, with a focus on system efficiency and long-term cost control. The Systems Specialist II is responsible for installation of systems and service installed jobs, including job start-up, checkout, and troubleshooting. This position handles emergency calls as directed and performs troubleshooting to resolve problems, referring more complex problems to supervisor. This position has the responsibility for larger and/or multiple jobs, additional service work, greater technical skills, and additional customer interaction than the Systems Specialist position.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of automation systems, HVAC and electrical concepts and operations.
  • Proficient in job start-up, checkout, programming, graphics and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in running conduit for installation of controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong math skills
  • Strong problem solving ability.
  • Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to evaluate urgency of situation and prioritize tasks.
  • Organized with an attention to detail.
  • Valid driver license
  • Technical school certificates

Responsibilities

  • Programs and installs systems and service installed jobs
  • Performs start-up and check out of systems and service installed jobs, as assigned.
  • Loads panels with database and initial check out.
  • Trouble shoots programs written by engineers.
  • Runs conduits for installation of controls.
  • Performs wiring checkout and assists in automation systems start-ups.
  • Coordinates electrical installation with electrical contractor on the jobsite as directed.
  • Completes final critical adjustments and calibration on automation systems following installation and preliminary set up.
  • Makes recommendations to superior regarding changes, improvements or installation of automation system on basis of own findings in the course of assignment.
  • Completes and submits written reports covering all aspects of each assignment, including customer, nature of trouble, equipment involved, time and material used, travel, and any other expenses.
  • Follows all proper clothing and safety requirements.
  • Provides customer service by responding to services calls to build and maintain customer relationships
  • Handles emergency service calls as directed.
  • Responds to customer service calls, checks indicated points of trouble and analyzes full requirements of system involved and checks and tests system components.
  • Diagnoses trouble or defects in sensors, field panels, or control consoles and determines corrective action.
  • Disconnects and dismantles instruments as necessary and corrects trouble or defect by adjusting, repairing or replacing parts or units.
  • If improper operation is due to another component of the automation system rather than the company’s product, discusses problem with customer and advises of best course of action to accomplish correction of trouble, and/or contacts service department of manufacturer of faulty component involved to arrange for service.
  • Presents a professional image of Building Controls and Services when speaking to customers (all levels).
  • Manages projects to ensure quality outcomes, on time delivery, within budget expectations
  • Understands job cost estimate and completes jobs under cost and hours given.
  • Participates in job site final walk thru to ensure quality installation.
  • Provides technical assistance and training as needed
  • Delivers technical support to end users and field labor when applicable.
  • Conducts onsite customer training when needed.
