Systems Software Engineer - Infrastructure

NVIDIA•Santa Clara, CA
•$152,000 - $241,500

About The Position

Join NVIDIA’s GPU Firmware Infrastructure team, which builds the automation, tools, and practices that accelerate GPU firmware development. The team supports firmware engineers with development tools, build compute, test farms, artifact and release pipelines, secure signing services, and observability. The role focuses on making these platforms fast and trustworthy so product teams can work and ship more effectively. You will build, operate, and improve infrastructure used by firmware teams, including build systems, regression farms, CI/CD pipelines, developer tools, frameworks, and web services. You will investigate and resolve problems spanning hardware, software, infrastructure, and team processes, and develop lasting solutions that prevent recurring issues. You will also create AI-powered workflows, document and automate processes and tools, and take improvement ideas from proof of concept through scalable deployment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of software, infrastructure, DevOps, or site reliability engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience architecting and debugging modern CI/CD and test automation pipelines, including working with test orchestration frameworks such as pytest or equivalent.
  • Experience with or interest in device BIOS, firmware, or other low-level embedded software, and in building tools for engineers who develop it.
  • Understanding of infrastructure services and data, including web services, REST APIs, relational databases, and schema design using SQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Ability to think about scalability.
  • Strong Python skills and comfort working in Linux shell environments.
  • Strong communication skills, including asking incisive questions, writing clear requirements, conducting critical reviews, and explaining trade-offs.
  • Strong interpersonal and empathy skills, curiosity, and ability to work closely with hardware and software engineers to design, develop, and debug process and tooling improvements.

Nice To Haves

  • A sense of humor is encouraged but not required.
  • A side project, open-source contribution, or internal tool built to address an irritating problem.
  • A record of writing clear technical proposals, design documents, or architecture decisions that others have acted on independently.
  • Experience with containers, orchestration, or infrastructure-as-code tools such as Kubernetes.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools, including assessing when their output is trustworthy and when to scrutinize or discard it.

Responsibilities

  • Build, operate, and improve infrastructure used by firmware teams, including build systems, regression farms, CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, frameworks, and web services.
  • Debug and resolve issues involving hardware, software, infrastructure, and team processes, addressing the underlying class of problem to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop AI-powered workflows that increase the output of individuals, teams, or the company.
  • Learn, document, and automate processes, services, and tooling through internal- and external-facing projects.
  • Identify and reduce organizational toil by developing improvement ideas from proof of concept into shipped, scalable solutions.
