Peraton is seeking a Systems Integration Engineer - Senior to join our team and help shape the future of U.S. airspace operations. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that FAA National Airspace Systems are upgraded in a timely manner. This position is required to be on-site, primarily located in Chantilly/Herndon, VA. Once you are fully operational, one to two days of remote work may be permitted. In this role, you will provide critical systems engineering expertise supporting the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Surface Movement Radar – Model 4 (SMR4) program, enhancing the safety, efficiency, and reliability of airport surface operations nationwide.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years’ experience or Masters degree and 6 years’ experience or Associate’s degree and 10 years’ experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 12 years’ experience
  • Experience reviewing and authoring technical documentation (ICDs, requirements specifications, test procedures, verification matrices)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for FAA stakeholder engagement
  • Prior or current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) program support experience

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with FAA NAS programs, particularly surveillance systems (ASDE-X, ASSC) or surface movement radar technologies
  • Experience with FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center Test & Evaluation (T&E) processes
  • Knowledge of airport surface movement radar technologies
  • Background in air traffic control or aviation surveillance system deployment

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a systems engineering lead supporting Peraton's role as the integration partner for the FAA's Surface Movement Radar – Model 4 (SMR4) deployment under the BNATCS program.
  • Oversee and track installation activities, schedules, and key milestones across multiple SMR4 deployment sites to ensure successful program execution.
  • Collaborate closely with FAA Program Management Office (PMO), Technical Operations (TO), Air Traffic (AT), and other stakeholders to align SMR4 integration activities with broader BNATCS program objectives.
  • Review and evaluate test plans, procedures, and reports to ensure compliance with program requirements and operational expectations.
  • Support and observe all phases of formal SMR4 testing, including factory development testing, contractor acceptance inspections, and on-site verification activities.
  • Analyze technical requirements and baseline documentation to ensure completeness, consistency, and traceability throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Identify and resolve requirements gaps, ambiguities, and integration issues by coordinating with FAA personnel, SAAB representatives, and program stakeholders.
  • Develop and review technical documentation, executive briefings, presentations, and decision-support materials for program leadership.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings (TIMs), integration working groups, and other collaborative forums to drive successful system implementation and operational readiness.
  • Contribute directly to the modernization of critical air traffic infrastructure that supports millions of passengers and aircraft operations across the United States.
