About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the continuous running of the cloud. This includes supporting all AWS data centers and their associated equipment like servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling. The team tackles challenging problems with numerous variables impacting the supply chain. The role involves joining a diverse team of engineers, specialists, and managers, collaborating across AWS to maintain high standards for safety and security, provide infinite capacity at low cost, and foster an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas. As a Systems Integration Engineer with deep expertise in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, you will bridge software simulation environments and physical hardware. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure control systems, firmware, and mechanical infrastructure perform as designed before field deployment. This includes owning the end-to-end integration validation lifecycle, from defining test architectures and building HIL rigs to executing closed-loop testing that replicates real-world datacenter conditions. Your contributions will prevent costly field failures, accelerate product deployment, and establish scalable institutional validation frameworks across global datacenter programs. This role is for individuals passionate about innovative projects at hyper-scale who meet the specified qualifications.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Industrial Automation.
  • Experience: 6+ years in systems integration, HIL testing, or systems validation — preferably in data center, industrial, or mission-critical infrastructure environments.
  • HIL Expertise: Hands-on experience designing and operating HIL test rigs, including real-time simulation platforms (e.g., RTDS, OPAL-RT, or equivalent).
  • Controls & Firmware Integration: Demonstrated ability to interface with PLCs, BMS controllers, firmware, and SCADA systems in a closed-loop test environment.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex integration findings into clear deployment recommendations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with datacenter mechanical systems — cooling infrastructure (CRAC/CRAH, DAHU, chillers, liquid cooling), airflow management, and power distribution.
  • Familiarity with CFD tools (e.g., Ansys Fluent, Cadence) for co-validation with physical test results.
  • Knowledge of generator systems, UPS, and electrical infrastructure behavior under transient loading conditions.
  • Experience supporting FOAK product validation and deployment readiness in large-scale infrastructure programs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build HIL test environments that replicate realistic datacenter loading scenarios — including power transients, thermal ramp events, cooling system interactions, and failure injection — enabling hardware and control systems to be validated under conditions that mirror Day 1 field deployment.
  • Own the integration layer between physical hardware (mechanical systems, electrical infrastructure, sensors, actuators) and software simulations ensuring bidirectional signal fidelity and realistic closed-loop behavior.
  • Develop and execute integration test plans covering functional verification, stress testing, fault injection, and edge-case scenarios for FOAK products.
  • Define and maintain Design Verification Plans (DVPs) and acceptance criteria for integrated system behavior, covering thermal, electrical, mechanical, and control system interactions.
  • Automate HIL test workflows using Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent tools — enabling repeatable, scalable test execution and continuous integration of hardware validation into the product development cycle.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on integration failures by reproducing failure modes in the HIL environment, isolating hardware vs. software root causes, and producing data-backed reports that support deployment sign-off decisions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams — including mechanical engineers, controls engineers, and electrical engineers to align on integration requirements, test coverage gaps, and deployment readiness criteria.
  • Build and maintain simulation-hardware co-validation frameworks — combining CFD/thermal models, electrical simulations, and physical test data to create high-confidence validation packages for new technology adoption.
  • Develop institutional HIL standards — repeatable test methodologies, rig architectures, signal interface specifications, and acceptance criteria — that scale across datacenter programs and product generations.
  • Support commissioning and operational readiness by translating HIL validation findings into field deployment guidance, operational runbooks, and risk mitigation strategies.

Benefits

  • health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage)
  • 401(k) matching
  • paid time off
  • parental leave
  • sign-on payments
  • restricted stock units (RSUs)
