About The Position

The Senior Longitudinal Motion Systems Engineering & Integration role at Rivian will play a crucial part in shaping the future of our vehicles. Collaborating closely with experts across various technical domains, you will define and analyze the essential functions and requirements that drive how our vehicles move through the world in the longitudinal direction. You will bridge the gap between technical domains and program goals while closely supporting Supplier Brake System Functional Integration efforts. Your deep understanding of automotive brake systems engineering will enable you to translate these requirements into practical solutions, directly contributing to the creation of Rivian's innovative vehicles and technologies. Working hands-on, you will play a key role in fulfilling Rivian's mission of Keeping the World Adventurous Forever.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0, 3.5 or higher preferred.
  • Experience operating within a vehicle development cycle on a new vehicle or major model change project from initial target setting phase through development, testing and launch.
  • Ideally having experienced at least one full, end-to-end development cycle.
  • 1-5 years’ experience working in Vehicle Dynamics, Brake Controls or Brake Systems Engineering
  • Experience integrating OEM and braking supplier features & functions
  • A strong understanding of vehicle dynamics & systems engineering.
  • Experience defining & decomposing system functions and requirements.
  • Experience creating system structural (i.e., Boundary) & behavioral (i.e., Activity, Stateflow & Sequence) diagrams.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering concepts, tools & practices
  • Experience conducting Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience working with ISO 26262

Responsibilities

  • Define Vehicle-level functions, use cases, requirements & user stories for Longitudinal Vehicle Motion (Acceleration, Deceleration & Standstill Management)
  • Decompose, allocate & cascade Longitudinal Vehicle Motion functions & requirements to Subsystems.
  • Lead cross-Attribute workstreams relevant to requirement definition & implementation.
  • Analyze fleet data to refine Vehicle use cases & duty cycle definition.
  • Conduct Failure and Risk Analysis & Assessments for Longitudinal Vehicle Motion functions & attributes.
  • Support Functional Safety Analysis’ for Longitudinal Vehicle Motion functions
  • Work closely with simulation teams to ensure simulation test cases are correctly aligned to Use Cases & Attributes.
  • Work closely with Chassis, Electrical & Controls Engineering teams to define System architectures.
  • Support Brake System Software Integration: pre-sourcing documentation alignment, requirement reviews, interface alignment, diagnostics alignment, validation reviews, development fleet integration, end-of-line testing
  • Support fleet & field Brake System issue triage and resolution
  • Define functional DVPs & test methods, and review functional & performance test reports for sign-off.
  • Work closely with Functional Safety, Homologation, Reliability, Durability, Sustainability and Service Engineering Teams to provide expertise on new or revised system designs and assess their impact.
