About The Position

Herzog Contracting Corp. is seeking a Systems Field Engineer in Los Angeles, CA to focus on rail systems including Overhead Contact System, Traction Power, Train Control, and Communication Systems. This role will support the Project Manager in planning, executing, and closing out transit systems projects, coordinating field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders. The engineer will serve as a key day-to-day contact for Clients, consultants, and project partners, managing RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, correspondence, project logs, and construction documentation. Responsibilities include conducting field walks to monitor progress, quality, safety, and compliance, identifying and resolving field coordination, constructability, technical, and interface issues, and assisting with project schedules, look-ahead plans, progress tracking, and schedule recovery. The role also involves monitoring project costs, labor productivity, material costs, subcontractor performance, and forecasts, as well as supporting estimating, change orders, scope reviews, and value engineering opportunities. The engineer will provide coordination and direction to Field Engineers and subcontractors, promote compliance with OSHA requirements, project specifications, company policies, and quality standards, and identify project risks and assist with developing mitigation and resolution strategies. Regular engagement, participation, and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors, along with regular and predictable attendance and punctuality, are requirements for this position. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
2–5 years of experience as a Field Engineer, Project Engineer, or similar role on transit or rail projects.
Understanding of construction project management controls.
Proficiency with scheduling tools, PDF editing software, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Teams.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
Valid U.S. Driver's License in good standing.
Ability to travel for project needs, corporate events, and training.
Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).

Identify project risks and assist with developing mitigation and resolution strategies.
