The vacant Systems Engineering, Senior Specialist role will report to the Leader, RTR Operations. The Systems Engineering, Senior Specialist will oversee both physical and virtual components of the organization’s IT landscape, including hardware, servers, networks, and software environments. They will be doing hands-on work and will have exposure to multiple infrastructure domains including compute, networking, storage, backup, and database platforms with a focus on preparation of patching plans, maintenance windows and implementation. They will work with internal and third-party vendors/service providers, ensuring seamless integration, effective service delivery, and alignment with the enterprise strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/IT and/or 10+ years of equivalent IT working experience.
  • Eligibility to work for Interac Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • 5+ years in platform engineering/SRE/DevOps/DBA roles
  • Strong hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift/Kubernetes: cluster/node patching, operator lifecycle, cluster upgrades, node drains, disruption budgets.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Databases: CockroachDB rolling upgrades; EDB Postgres/PostgreSQL minor/major upgrades, pg_upgrade, replication failover.
  • Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD Tooling: Jenkins LTS upgrades/plugins, controller/agent lifecycle; GitHub Enterprise admin (or GitHub Cloud governance).
  • Strong hands-on experience with Artifact & API: JFrog Artifactory upgrades; API Gateways, plugin compatibility, declarative configs.
  • Strong hands-on experience with OS patching: RHEL/Ubuntu/Windows Server; package managers and reboot policy.
  • Automation-first mindset.
  • Experience with Ansible.
  • Experience with Bash.
  • Experience with Python.
  • Experience with GitOps workflows.
  • IaC familiarity.
  • Change management (ITIL).
  • Maintenance window planning.
  • Rollback engineering.
  • Solid grasp of networking & TLS.

  • Solid grasp of secrets management (Vault/KMS).
  • Solid grasp of identity integrations (OIDC/SAML).
  • Experience with observability (Solarwinds, Dynatrace).

  • Knowledge of backup technologies with Dell SAN or Dell Data Domain.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with Architecture, Platform Engineering, and Dev-Sec-Ops teams to develop and execute a consistent, secure, and robust infrastructure and platform supporting all product lines and services.
  • Managing operating systems and system software for software currency and stability in platforms (i.e. RHEL, Windows etc.).
  • Prepare patch plans and maintenance windows; coordinate approvals, prerequisites, and comms.
  • Apply OS/middleware updates using approved pipelines; perform pre/post validation and basic rollbacks when required.
  • Validate lower‑environment changes before promotion; document outcomes and residual risks.
  • Update configuration baselines and evidence for audit, linking changes to vulnerability remediation.
  • Monitoring system health, performance, and capacity, managing system alerts/notifications, creating dashboards, and analyzing & reviewing system trends.
  • Ensuring the integrity of fundamental infrastructure operations (availability, monitoring, backup/recovery, capacity) in support of Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP).
  • Conducting regular reviews of vulnerability scans and risk assessments with Security to identify existing or potential weaknesses in systems and processes that could lead to compromises; facilitating remediation of identified vulnerabilities within processes, systems, and applications.
  • Ensuring high availability to meet the Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Service Level Objectives (SLO) of critical systems.
