About The Position

The System Engineering Manager will support the KGS Kidde Residential Fire product portfolio. This individual must have the ability to read and interpret high-level product requirements, offer design and implementation approaches based on those requirements, and drive system and sub-system requirements. The incumbent will also identify, create, and execute product test cases throughout the development phases of a project or product, and will facilitate discussion with the cross-functional team members to provide a detailed design failure mode analysis of the entire system. The candidate is expected to have a background in product life cycle, product designs, electrical and electronics systems, and troubleshooting, and will be involved in all aspects of the product development process (concept, design, verification, validation, and production). They must also have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and in multiple projects and functions, as part of a global team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or systems engineering
  • 7+ years of engineering experience in product development, with experience in designing embedded systems including analog/digital electronics, firmware, sensors, and system integration

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience leading or coordinating engineers in a technical leadership or people management capacity
  • Familiarity with systems engineering methodologies and related tools (UML, SysML, DFMEA, Pugh Matrix, Requirements Management, QFDs, etc.)
  • Global development experience working with distributed engineering teams
  • Analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication (technical and non-technical), time management, and ability to handle high-pressure situations and simultaneous projects.
  • Speed in problem solving is key for the success of this position

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end system for Kidde residential life safety products
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional engineering teams including electronics hardware, mechanical design, compliance, test laboratories, and manufacturing for multiple development projects
  • Translate product requirements and regulatory standards into clear system-level requirements and specifications and ensuring traceability from concept to validation
  • Managing system engineering deliverables on engineering projects, from start to finish, so that it is completed on time and within budget
  • Defining and representing the fundamental structure of systems, system components, their relationships, and interfaces and the interface between the system and its external environment
  • Defining system boundaries, inputs/outputs, data flows, and capturing processing needs
  • Serve as the technical authority responsible to identify, manage, and mitigate system-level technical risks throughout development and ensure interoperability of sub-systems
  • Lead the development of system verification/validation plans to ensure full requirements coverage, without overdesigning
  • Conduct system-level robust design reviews including DFMEA
  • Support root-cause analysis from quality incident tickets and corrective actions for system-level issues during development and post-launch
  • Utilizes knowledge of emerging technologies, participates in conducting technology assessments and conceptualization of emerging technology strategy
  • Participates in assessment of current tools & technologies and makes recommendations for design improvement
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams (sub-system leaders, lead engineers, Project and Program Managers, manufacturing, operations, labs and agencies (UL / ETL) to resolve issues
  • Provide concise technical summaries to leadership to support program decisions
  • Clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders
  • Support resource planning and prioritization in collaboration with functional and program leadership
  • Develop and maintain system documentation including requirements, architectures, interface definitions, and verification plans with the aid of requirements management tools
  • Help define best practices, tools, and processes for system engineering across Programs
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers and cross-functional team members
