Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Systems Engineering Intern to contribute to its work designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. Interns are placed in meaningful, challenging roles, with project assignments and technical requirements varying according to team needs. Internship opportunities are available to currently enrolled college students at all levels, from bachelor’s through PhD, and may be based onsite in Devens, Massachusetts. Onsite interns are responsible for their own transportation and housing. The program lasts 13–18 weeks and involves 40–50 hours per week, with an hourly rate based on the intern’s year in school. Interns must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer. The intern will collaborate with CFS Systems Engineers and relevant stakeholders on core systems engineering capabilities, including requirement-driven design, trade studies, interface and risk management, technical budgets, integrated commissioning, verification and validation, and transition to operations. The position may require travel and occasional nights, weekends, or on-call work. Work may involve extended periods of typing, standing, or sitting, and safety practices are important in environments with potential industrial hazards such as heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.
