About The Position

What keeps a modern industrial facility running when automation, controls, networks, data, and cybersecurity all have to work together? Operational Technology. As the Systems Engineering Area Manager, Operational Technology, you’ll lead the engineering strategy and lifecycle of the OT systems that control, monitor, and connect critical operations. You’ll oversee controls, automation, industrial networks, historians, OT infrastructure, and cybersecurity—ensuring these systems are secure, reliable, maintainable, and ready for what’s next. You’ll be the technical bridge between physical equipment, Controls Engineering, IT, Cybersecurity, Facilities, and Operations, helping turn today’s automation environment into a resilient platform for tomorrow’s digital transformation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, OT systems, industrial networks, or related engineering disciplines.
  • 3+ years of experience leading engineers, technical professionals, or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with PLCs, DCS, SCADA, HMIs, industrial networks, historians, or other industrial control systems.
  • Experience developing technical standards, architectures, engineering roadmaps, and lifecycle strategies.
  • Strong understanding of system integration, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and make sound decisions in a mission-critical operating environment.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a “Q” level security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading OT/automation programs in a manufacturing, energy, nuclear, industrial, or other mission-critical environment.
  • Experience integrating OT cybersecurity, industrial networks, controls, operational data, and enterprise systems.
  • Experience leading large-scale controls modernization, automation, digital transformation, or technology lifecycle initiatives.
  • PE license, advanced technical degree, or relevant industry certification.
  • Active “Q” or Top Secret Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering, reliability, cybersecurity, integration, and lifecycle management of the site’s Operational Technology environment.
  • Oversee controls, automation, industrial networks, historians, and OT infrastructure while establishing standards for system architecture, modernization, cybersecurity, reliability, and operational continuity.
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary technical team, manage technology partners and major initiatives, and work closely with Operations, Facilities, Electrical, IT, Cybersecurity, Construction, and Engineering to ensure OT systems are secure, reliable, maintainable, and ready to support future automation and digital transformation.
