About The Position

The Systems Engineer will provide systems engineering, requirements management, verification and validation (V&V) coordination, and element-level integration support to the MSFC Systems Design and Verification Branch (EV72) for the Space Launch System (SLS) Upper Stage Office (USO). The role coordinates with multiple engineering disciplines, system and cross-program elements, customers, NASA organizations, contractor partners, ground systems, Orion and payload stakeholders. It supports reviews, meetings, working groups, task teams, and trade studies, and helps develop and execute operational concepts, system requirements, verification strategies, and interface integration activities throughout the Upper Stage lifecycle. The position serves as an engineering liaison between the Upper Stage element and its stakeholders, translating mission objectives and operational needs into engineering solutions. Its goal is to help deliver an integrated, verifiable, operationally ready Upper Stage element that supports safe and efficient launch vehicle processing, launch operations, and mission execution. The role is based in an office environment and includes extended computer and desk work, technical meetings, and occasional domestic travel to NASA Centers, contractor facilities, customer locations, and integration test sites (approximately 0–20%, depending on mission and test requirements). Normal work hours are 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; minimal overtime may be required to meet milestones and technical demands.
