About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking a junior, flexible, action-oriented systems engineer to support systems engineering teams throughout the lifecycle of space missions, from concept development and design through requirements development, implementation, integration, launch, commissioning, operations, and maintenance. The role focuses on managing technical requirement development and verification for subsystems, payloads, vehicles, and ground systems, helping convert product requirements into complete systems solutions. Depending on program needs, the engineer may also assist with interface management, environmental considerations, CONOPS, CDRLs, Systems Engineering Reports, change control, MBSE models, and integration and test planning and execution. The role supports the development, verification, delivery, and operation of missions, segments, elements, subsystems, and components; contributes to requirements allocation and traceability; and supports technical documentation and major gate reviews. The position is part of the Engineering, Science and Analysis Strategic Capabilities Unit. It requires regular onsite work five days each normally scheduled week at the primary work location. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or a remote research environment. Occasional work in production areas requiring protective equipment, facility access in varied weather, and travel or commuting between company campuses and other locations may be required.

Requirements

  • A BS degree or higher in engineering or a related technical field; related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • A current, active Top Secret security clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Polygraph.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail for effectively reviewing and verifying requirements.
  • Experience, through direct work or coursework, with systems engineering processes including requirements development, requirement allocation, change management, verification, and validation; ability to incorporate guidance and take ownership of these activities.
  • Good organizational and presentation skills.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn technical concepts across engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to think about system-wide impacts of changes to components and subsystems.
  • Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities, tasking, and deadlines.
  • Accredited degree from a university, college, or school recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or U.S. Department of Education, if relying on a degree.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule and work onsite five days each normally scheduled week.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of missions and customers across core technology areas.
  • Knowledge or experience working with critical customer bases and established relationships with key personnel in the customer community.
  • Experience using requirements database tools such as DOORS, Jama, or Cameo Requirements Modeler.

Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering support to technical teams developing, verifying, delivering, and operating missions, segments, elements, subsystems, and/or components.
  • Support the allocation, traceability, and verification of requirements at all levels throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts to develop requirements allocation, analysis, and verification artifacts.
  • Create and manage technical definition documentation across the systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Execute the System Engineering Management Plan (SEMP).
  • Support preparation for and delivery of major gate reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, and PSR.
  • Support requirements verification and integration and test activities.
  • Prepare and present material to peers, management, and customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the department, business units, capabilities units, and company; interact appropriately to support a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
  • Assist with systems engineering tasks such as interface development and management, environmental considerations, CONOPS, CDRLs, Systems Engineering Reports, change controls, MBSE models, and I&T planning and execution, depending on program needs.
