Systems Engineer, Infrastructure and Automation

Mercola•Cape Coral, FL
•$110,000 - $140,000•Hybrid

About The Position

The Systems Engineer, Infrastructure and Automation owns core infrastructure delivery, automates repeatable work, verifies actual system behavior, and ensures systems can be operated by others. This is a senior, hands-on role requiring early technical delivery in an environment where some systems are undocumented. The engineer will establish what is running, verify behavior using live systems, and leave usable documentation behind. The work includes physical infrastructure tasks that require access to the Cape Coral office and datacenter. The position is hybrid in Cape Coral, Florida, and requires a few hours of daily overlap with the India-based engineering team during U.S. Eastern business hours. Application development, deployment pipelines, and database administration are handled by development and DBA teams; the engineer collaborates where their work intersects with infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 3–8 years of hands-on infrastructure or systems engineering experience.
  • Hands-on Windows Server and VMware vSphere/vCenter administration.
  • Actual administration of Active Directory and Entra ID, including groups, service accounts, SSO, MFA, and access reviews.
  • Working knowledge of subnetting, VLANs, routing, NAT, DNS, TLS, VPNs, and next-generation firewalls.
  • Enterprise backup experience with Veeam or a comparable product, including personally performing restores.
  • Microsoft 365 administration experience.
  • Ability to write useful tools in PowerShell or Python.
  • Ability to create clear runbooks, change plans, and status updates understandable to technical colleagues and directors.
  • Systematic troubleshooting skills, including isolating variables, verifying against authoritative sources, and acknowledging uncertainty.
  • Security judgment covering least privilege, credential protection, and care with data subject to legal hold or privacy constraints.
  • Ability to work independently in undocumented environments and learn unfamiliar areas quickly.
  • Must be within reach of the Cape Coral office for hands-on and datacenter work.
  • Ability to work U.S. Eastern business hours with a few hours of daily overlap with the India-based engineering team.

Nice To Haves

  • Linux administration.
  • Intune, Autopilot, and Apple Business Manager.
  • Monitoring improvements and alert-noise reduction.

  • Administer Active Directory and Entra ID, including groups, service accounts, SSO, MFA, conditional access, and access reviews; improve credential ownership, vaulting, and employee access processes.
  • Build, patch, and maintain Windows Server and Linux virtual machines on VMware/vCenter; manage storage and capacity, document dependencies, and safely retire unused systems.
  • Troubleshoot firewalls, routing, NAT, VPNs, VLANs, switches, DNS, and TLS using live evidence; perform physical installation work and help execute datacenter migration cutovers and rollback plans.
  • Support Windows and Mac device management and administer Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint/OneDrive, and related security settings.
  • Improve monitoring coverage and alert quality so actionable failures reach a responder.
  • Write PowerShell or Python tools to automate repeatable work and retrieve live state; review AI-generated output and verify it is safe before use.
  • Document systems and changes while working, coach junior teammates, and collaborate with development, DBA, and India-based engineering teams where infrastructure intersects their work.
