About The Position

New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM) is hiring two Systems Engineers to design, build, and maintain enterprise systems across a multi-cloud infrastructure supporting more than 100 applications and products. One engineer will be dedicated to Google Cloud and one to Amazon Web Services. The positions collaborate with the Systems Engineering Manager on strategic initiatives and own systems end to end. The role is within NYCEM’s Information Technology unit, which provides technology support to agency staff and maintains the agency’s technology and computer systems. The IT unit is part of the Office of the Chief Operating Officer. The Systems Engineer designs and manages cloud workloads; provisions infrastructure according to organizational requirements, security standards, and compliance policies; administers Microsoft 365 and hybrid cloud systems; and builds, upgrades, and migrates Windows Server environments. The role also supports cybersecurity, identity and endpoint administration, automation, disaster recovery, and application deployment and scaling. As part of NYCEM’s emergency response mission, this position participates on an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) team. During emergency activations, team members may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended shifts. EOC teams are on call for three weeks at a time, with six weeks off in between. Outside activations, members participate in periodic training and exercises and may volunteer for Ready NY preparedness presentations. The selected candidate will generally work in person at the designated office three days per week, subject to telework policies and reasonable accommodations. The position is supported by a federal Emergency Management Performance Grant through September 30, 2027, with the possibility of an extension. The employee is responsible for training requirements associated with the grant. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without employer support. A separate cover letter must be submitted in the application portal. The stated salary band is $100,000 to $125,000; listed compensation is USD 99,767 to USD 107,380.
