About The Position

Under the direction of the IT Director, the Systems Engineer is a senior technical contributor responsible for the reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of New Freedom’s IT systems. This hands-on role provides advanced technical expertise, leads and executes complex systems initiatives, serves as a primary escalation point, mentors Systems Support staff, and translates organizational needs into effective technical solutions—reducing reliance on leadership by owning initiatives from execution through completion.

  • Experience with identity/access management platforms
  • Experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure (networking, firewalls, endpoints, security systems)
  • Experience leading and executing IT projects from planning through implementation and stabilization
  • Experience with system upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery planning/testing
  • Experience developing, improving, and supporting internal tools, automation, and light applications
  • Experience mentoring and supporting technical staff through guidance, documentation, knowledge sharing, and escalation practices

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex, cross-system technical issues, independently diagnosing and resolving problems across systems, applications, identity, networking, and security
  • Perform root cause analysis on recurring or high-impact incidents and recommend long-term corrective and preventive solutions
  • Support, maintain, and enhance Microsoft 365 services (SharePoint, Teams, Exchange, OneDrive) and identity/access management platforms
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure, including networking, firewalls, endpoints, and security systems
  • Lead and execute IT projects from planning through implementation and stabilization, coordinating timelines, dependencies, and stakeholders
  • Contribute to system upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery planning/testing, and other infrastructure initiatives in partnership with IT leadership
  • Develop, improve, and support internal tools, automation, and light applications that enhance IT operations, reporting, and efficiency
  • Mentor and support Systems Support Technicians through hands-on guidance, documentation standards, knowledge sharing, and consistent escalation practices
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to support our mission.
