As part of the Strategic Capabilities Unit (SCU), you will be at the heart of BAE Systems' most discriminating technologies, helping us define the next generation of mission success. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., master’s degree and/or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
  • Strong Python skills are essential.
  • The ability to build analytic models and translate those results into clear, actionable technical reports.
  • You can take complex analysis and turn it into a compelling narrative for both internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • You thrive in small, high-impact teams where collaboration, open communication, and shared success are the priority.
  • A communicator who can document results with precision and interact effectively across all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Physics, Mathematics, or a related STEM field, providing a strong theoretical foundation for complex problem-solving.
  • A passion for and experience with space systems and the intricacies of orbital dynamics.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard tools such as STK and AFSIM to model and analyze mission architectures.
  • A proven track record of independent research, demonstrating the ability to navigate ambiguity and derive insights from complex data sets.
  • The ability to leverage Python not just for basic tasks, but as a primary tool for sophisticated analytical modeling.
  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and a desire to apply these methodologies to next-generation missions.

Responsibilities

  • Build the Tools: You won't just use existing software; you will develop new tools and algorithms for mission systems modeling and data analysis, evolving our capabilities in real-time.
  • Analyze Complex Systems: Collaborate with a team of analysts to simulate and characterize mission performance across diverse domains (Space, Air, and Ground).
  • Solve Real-World Problems: Contribute to critical project milestones by providing creative solutions to multifaceted technical bottlenecks.
  • Develop Executive Presence: Gain rare, early-career experience presenting your findings and proposed solutions to peers, senior management, and external customers.
  • Business Acumen: Get a "behind-the-scenes" look at the defense industry by supporting new business initiatives, including proposal writing and cost/schedule estimation.
  • Cross-Functional Synergy: Build a professional network across Strategic Business Units and the wider company, learning how high-impact technologies move from concept to delivery.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
