About The Position

Northrop Grumman is offering a SkillBridge Program for service members preparing for civilian careers. This program allows participants to gain valuable civilian work experience during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. Participants will work on-site, gaining experience in an entry to mid-level career path with on-the-job training equivalent to 40 hours per week. The program aims to provide separating service members with job skills training in a professional setting, offering hands-on experience that could lead to full-time employment. Participants will be trained in professional development, networking with leadership, NG leadership principles, company history, customer/stakeholder engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities. The Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test & Logistics (SEIT&L) Department at Northrop Grumman Oceanic is seeking a systems engineering generalist to support complex, dynamic, maritime programs of national strategic importance. This role involves contributing to the development of state-of-the-art oceanic systems, including uncrewed undersea vehicles (UUVs), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), undersea payloads, acoustic and non-acoustic sensors, sensor processing, navigation, platform integration, subsea and maritime-surface communication technologies, advanced algorithms, and digital engineering.

Requirements

  • Has served at least 180 days on active duty
  • Is within 12 months of separation or retirement
  • Will receive an honorable discharge
  • Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
  • Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
  • Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship.
  • Qualified applicants must have 5 years of experience with a STEM Bachelors Degree or 3 years of experience with a STEM Masters Degree or 1 year with a STEM PHD (for Principal Engineer T03).
  • Qualified applicants must have 8 years of experience with a STEM Bachelors Degree or 6 years of experience with a STEM Masters Degree or 4 year with a STEM PHD (for Sr. Principal Engineer T04).
  • Have a keen interest in working in the maritime surface / undersea domain.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more Systems Engineering processes, including (but not limited to) system operation and/or field support/sustainment, requirements development & management, system modeling, system architecture development, interface traceability, integration & test, and verification & validation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn additional discipline areas.
  • Current Secret security clearance, and willingness to obtain a TS/SCI with CI polygraph.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Navy customers and/or underwater/naval systems such as torpedoes, towed vehicles, UUVs, ROVs, SONAR/sensor systems, underwater mechanical structures and cabling, submarines, or subsea payloads is desired.
  • Experience in anti-submarine warfare, seabed warfare, mine countermeasures, and Navy tactics would also be desirable.
  • US Navy Submariner Qualification
  • Current Top Secret clearance, or above

Responsibilities

  • Support complex, dynamic, maritime programs of national strategic importance.
  • Contribute to the development of state-of-the-art oceanic systems.
  • Work within multi-disciplined teams, performing in one or more of the following functions: mission engineering, requirements development & management (using DOORS), system architecture development, system modeling including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), establishing and integrating components of a digital design thread, interface development & management, concept of operations (CONOPS) development & management, trade studies / analysis of alternatives, integration & test, and verification & validation.
  • Develop systems engineering work products associated with the functions above.
  • Prepare and brief technical packages to program, company, and customer leadership teams.
  • Support project and program processes, reviews, and technical planning activities.
  • Develop content and present during milestone reviews including Systems Requirement Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Test Readiness Review (TRR), Consent to Ship Review (CSR).
  • Support capture and proposal activities.
