About The Position

You'll work directly on the systems that keep our messaging infrastructure running — and have real ownership over making them better. You'll own the reliability and performance of our messaging infrastructure across every protocol we support. iMessage certs expiring on hardware, RCS implementation quirks, SMS rate limits, fallback logic when things break — this is your world. The job is to know these systems better than anyone and stay ahead of the problems before they become outages.

Requirements

• Get satisfaction from things working reliably, not just working once
• Have experience with distributed systems, infrastructure, or DevOps at a real scale
• Are the kind of person who reads the protocol docs for fun (or at least doesn't hate it)
• Prefer to fix the root cause, not the symptom
• Can hold the full context of a complex system in your head and reason about edge cases

Nice To Haves

• Experience with messaging protocols (SMS/MMS gateways, RCS, iMessage/APNs) or telecom infrastructure
• Background in load testing, capacity planning, or site reliability
• Familiarity with AWS, Docker, monitoring/alerting tools (Grafana, Datadog, PagerDuty, etc.)
• Experience at a startup or high-growth company

Responsibilities

• Dig deep into messaging protocols (iMessage, RCS, SMS) and become the expert on how they behave at scale
• Build and run load tests, understand rate limits by protocol, and engineer around them
• Design fallback systems so messages always get delivered
• Monitor and get ahead of infrastructure issues — expired certs, degraded performance, protocol changes
• Work closely with the engineering team to improve deliverability across the platform
