Our teams are supporting major transit programs that require the successful integration of complex, operationally critical systems, including communications, networking, control systems, safety systems, passenger-facing technologies, and IT/OT infrastructure. We are seeking a Systems Engineer – Transit to join our growing Systems team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-profile transit projects that shape how communities move, while working alongside multidisciplinary teams, transit agencies, contractors, operators, and technical specialists. The successful candidate will support the planning, design, integration, verification, validation, commissioning, and delivery of complex systems for transit clients. The role will involve integrating systems across stations, guideways, control centres, vehicles, communications networks, and supporting infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings experience in systems engineering, transit technologies, telecommunications, operational technologies, or complex infrastructure integration. They are comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment, translating operational needs into clear technical requirements, and supporting the delivery of high-reliability systems in complex stakeholder environments.

Requirements

  • University degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering, systems integration, consulting engineering, transit systems, communications systems, operational technologies, or complex infrastructure projects.
  • P.Eng. designation or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada
  • Experience working on LRT, BRT, bus transit, or other public transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with requirements development, requirements management, interface management, testing, commissioning, or system acceptance.
  • Experience supporting the development, deployment, testing, or validation of software-intensive systems.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • INCOSE ASEP, CSEP, or related certification.
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288.
  • Knowledge of EN 50126, EN 50128, and EN 50129.
  • Experience in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Experience supporting field reviews, testing, commissioning, or site-based activities.
  • Flexibility to support occasional travel to project sites when required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or support systems engineering and systems integration activities on transit projects.
  • Provide technical expertise for transit systems such as Public Address, CCTV, CAD/AVL, fare collection, passenger counting, passenger information, communications, networking, and control systems.
  • Define, manage, and trace system requirements and system configurations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Apply systems engineering principles to the design, integration, verification & validation , deployment and decommission of transit systems.
  • Produce system engineering plans such as: SEMP, CMP, DMP, RMP, QAP, SIP and V&V plans.
  • Perform site surveys, documentation surveys and operation surveys and develop current system condition assessment report and concept of operations and maintenance.
  • Perform business and mission analysis for the new proposed system and develop business needs and stakeholder needs.
  • Define new system and develop system architectures, integration strategies, interface control approaches, and testing strategies.
  • Perform hazard identification, risk assessment, residual risk control measures and apply applicable risk acceptance criteria for a given system.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, vendors, operators, and transit agencies.
  • Support verification, validation, commissioning, system acceptance, and operational readiness activities.
  • Review technical submissions, design documents, specifications, test plans, and test results.
  • Identify, document, and mitigate technical, operational, cybersecurity, and interface risks.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, integration plans, interface documentation, and testing documentation.
  • Support project delivery through clear communication, sound engineering judgement, and practical problem-solving.
