About The Position

DESE Research, Inc. seeks a Systems Engineer – Responsible Systems Engineer (Mid-Level) to join an exciting team supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in System Design and Requirements activities for the Missile Defense System (MDS). This position is on-site in Huntsville, AL. The candidate will join the System Engineering & Integration Team (SE&IT) and serve as a Responsible Systems Engineer (RSE), leading cross-functional systems engineering teams in the development of system-level technical solutions for MDA. The candidate will help guide the development of system-level architecture, requirements, and interfaces that influence incremental MDS capability. The candidate will use Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to evaluate architectural impacts through functional behavior analysis and will develop and coordinate changes to system specifications, including functional, interface, and performance requirements. The position also includes developing and coordinating technical products and supporting internal and MDA stakeholder reviews.

Requirements

  • Strong technical background in systems engineering, including system thinking, architecture development, functional decomposition, and allocation of requirements.
  • Experience developing and managing performance, functional, and interface requirements using system-modeling tools.
  • Ability to think critically and capture concepts in technical presentations and discussions.
  • Experience developing and coordinating changes to system specifications, including functional, interface, and performance requirements.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate technical products, including technical briefings and Change Notices (CNs).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for conveying technical concepts and approaches to customers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and within a small team environment.
  • Ability to work in close coordination with the customer.
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with systems engineering and system requirements development.
  • Strong prior experience with MSOSA (Cameo) and DOORS.
  • Experience with MDA mission areas, including areas such as Aegis Weapon Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Glide Phase Intercept (GPI), Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), Fire Control, C2BMC, MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS), Space-Based Interceptor (SBI), Next-Generation Interceptor (NGI), Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems, Cruise Missile Defense, or Air Defense.
  • Active Secret-level DoD security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience modeling or simulating missile defense applications or similar domains, including air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, or sub-orbital mechanics.
  • Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems, including aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, and countermeasure systems.
  • Modeling and analysis experience with missile defense system elements and technologies.
  • Experience with systems such as Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Glide Phase Intercept (GPI), Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), Fire Control, C2BMC, MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, Air Defense systems, Cloud Based Command and Control (CBC2), and Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS).
  • Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.
