About The Position

The Systems Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for the design, analysis, and integration of mechanical and structural systems across complex maritime platforms. This role requires a systems-level mindset with strong mechanical engineering expertise, supporting projects that involve mechanical interface integration with electrical and communications systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related STEM field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in mechanical or systems engineering, preferably in maritime, defense, or shipbuilding industries.
  • Proficiency with CAD and modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or AutoCAD).
  • Experience with FEA and thermal/structural analysis tools
  • Knowledge of materials selection, corrosion control, and environmental design for marine applications.
  • Understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and vibration/shock requirements in shipboard environments.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret (or higher) security clearance.
  • Excellent technical communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel to shipyards, test sites, or customer facilities as needed
  • System design and troubleshooting skills.
  • Programming knowledge for developing scripts and automating processes.
  • Familiarity with operating systems and networking for monitoring and maintaining system performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Cloud computing knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Perform system-level requirements analysis, decomposition, and allocation for mechanical and structural systems.
  • Translate customer and MIL-STD specifications into mechanical design criteria and system architecture.
  • Develop performance and environmental requirements (shock, vibration, noise, thermal, fluid flow).
  • Develop and evaluate mechanical system architectures.
  • Model mechanical system performance and ensure integration with electrical and control systems.
  • Optimize design for manufacturability, maintainability, and shipboard installation.
  • Manage mechanical interfaces across systems — including mounting structures, thermal management, piping, and cable routing.
  • Develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs), installation drawings, and 3D models showing integrated mechanical layouts.
  • Collaborate with electrical, controls, and software teams to ensure cohesive system integration.
  • Develop test procedures and support system-level verification and validation for mechanical and environmental performance.
  • Participate in integration, commissioning, and acceptance testing onboard ships or at test facilities.
  • Conduct root-cause analyses and corrective actions for mechanical or thermal anomalies.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime and defense standards (MIL-STD-901D, MIL-STD-167, ABS, DNV, etc.).
  • Support configuration and risk management throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Conduct reliability, maintainability, and safety analyses (FMEA, fault tree analysis, hazard assessment).
  • Prepare mechanical design documentation, test reports, analysis packages, and installation procedures.
  • Support design reviews, technical interchange meetings (TIMs), and customer technical audits.
  • Work cross-functionally with electrical, software, manufacturing, and field service teams to deliver integrated maritime solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.
  • Interface with shipyards, customers, and government stakeholders during design, production, and installation phases.
