About The Position

At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer – Level 3 or 4 with a focus on Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), located in Chandler, Arizona. The MBSE Systems Engineer is responsible for using Cameo to capture and maintain the system architecture and ensuring robust requirements traceability between the Cameo system model and the baseline requirements in DOORS. This role serves as a key integrator between traditional requirements‑based systems engineering and model‑based representations, enabling consistent, traceable, and analyzable system definitions. This position is 100% on site in Chandler, AZ.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or related STEM discipline with a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or MS in Engineering or related STEM discipline with 3 years of related experience (for Level 3).
  • BS in Engineering or related STEM discipline with a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or MS in Engineering or related STEM discipline with 6 years of related experience (for Level 4).
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Hands‑on experience using Cameo (or similar SysML‑based MBSE tool) to develop and maintain system models.
  • Experience with requirements management using IBM DOORS (or equivalent), including establishing and maintaining traceability.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and author system‑level requirements and translate them into model elements.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present model‑based views and traceability to diverse technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience applying MBSE on spacecraft, launch vehicle, missile, or other complex aerospace/defense systems.
  • Working knowledge of SysML and common MBSE patterns (e.g., functional decomposition, interface modeling, state‑based behaviors).
  • Experience integrating Cameo with DOORS or similar toolchains (e.g., OSLC, data synchronization, or report generation).
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering fundamentals such as requirements management, verification planning, and design‑review execution.
  • Willingness to work on fast‑paced development programs.
  • Ability to travel, if required, to support off‑site reviews or technical working sessions.
  • Experience leading MBSE tasks or acting as an MBSE focal/SME within an IPT.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain system‑level and subsystem‑level models in Cameo, including structural, behavioral, and interface views.
  • Capture system functions, interfaces, states, and data flows in the model to reflect the authoritative system architecture.
  • Support architecture trade studies by representing alternatives in the model and coordinating with stakeholders to assess impacts.
  • Establish and maintain traceability between DOORS requirements and Cameo model elements (e.g., blocks, activities, interfaces).
  • Implement and maintain links, stereotypes, and relationships that support bidirectional traceability and impact analysis.
  • Regularly reconcile the Cameo model with the DOORS requirement baseline, ensuring consistency after requirement changes or model updates.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and domain leads to ensure that the Cameo model accurately reflects allocated requirements, interfaces, and constraints.
  • Support definition and refinement of modeling conventions, naming standards, and modeling patterns to align with program and enterprise MBSE practices.
  • Generate model‑based views, reports, and dashboards (from Cameo) that support design reviews, requirements reviews, and stakeholder communication.
  • Support technical reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR) by providing architecture views and traceability evidence from Cameo and DOORS.
  • Assist in the configuration management of the system model and associated requirement artifacts, ensuring proper version control and baselining.
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or ambiguities in the architecture or requirements trace and propose corrective actions.
  • Work closely with systems, software, and hardware teams to ensure model content supports their planning and analysis needs.
  • Provide guidance to other engineers on how to interpret and use the model and its traceability information.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of MBSE processes, tooling, and best practices on the program.
