About The Position

This role is responsible for the operation and maintenance of datacenter infrastructure, including servers, virtualization platforms, storage systems, switching and routing, power, cooling, and physical environments. The Systems Engineer will also assist in the operation, maintenance, and coordination of MDF/IDF infrastructure and remote site interconnects supporting datacenter services. Key responsibilities include monitoring datacenter systems for health, performance, capacity, and availability, identifying and remediating risks proactively, and participating in infrastructure lifecycle management. The position involves administering and supporting virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware) and enterprise server environments, performing root cause analysis for infrastructure incidents, and deploying, configuring, and maintaining Windows and Linux virtual and physical servers in collaboration with application support teams. The role also requires supporting core networking infrastructure, ensuring infrastructure aligns with security and compliance requirements, and adhering to change management processes. After-hours maintenance and support are expected as needed, particularly when business continuity is threatened. The Systems Engineer will develop and maintain full-stack documentation, implement and support enterprise applications from an infrastructure perspective, and communicate effectively with various stakeholders. Evaluating emerging technologies and recommending improvements are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related area, or equivalent level of training/experience
  • Five (5) years enterprise infrastructure operations experience
  • Experience with VMware ESXi, and Cisco IOS
  • Working knowledge of datacenter cooling and power management
  • Demonstrated experience supporting highly available, mission-critical systems
  • Excellent resource management skills
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and change management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments, with leadership and end users as needed
  • Ability to concentrate on logical problem solving in the midst of competing projects
  • Excellent organization and language skills required
  • Medium physical demands capability required
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching and the ability to lift, carry, push or pull weights up to thirty pounds

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of datacenter infrastructure, including servers, virtualization platforms, storage systems, switching and routing, power, cooling, and physical environments.
  • Assist in the operation, maintenance, and coordination of MDF/IDF infrastructure and remote site interconnects supporting datacenter services.
  • Monitor datacenter systems for health, performance, capacity, and availability. Identify and remediate risks proactively.
  • Participate in infrastructure lifecycle management, including hardware refresh, platform upgrades, and capacity planning.
  • Administer and support virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware) and enterprise server environments.
  • Perform root cause analysis for infrastructure incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • In collaboration with application support teams and staff, deploy, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux virtual and physical servers.
  • In collaboration with the networking and security teams, support core networking infrastructure including switching, routing, wireless, firewalls, and network security tools.
  • Ensure infrastructure aligns with security, compliance, and risk management requirements in collaboration with the security team.
  • Align with organization change management processes to develop and act on implementation, test, and validation plans as well as operational processes. After-hours maintenance windows will be scheduled as needed.
  • Develop and maintain full-stack documentation for datacenter infrastructure.
  • Implement and support enterprise applications from an infrastructure perspective, ensuring reliability, performance, and integration.
  • Communicate effectively with application teams, vendors, and managed service providers to resolve infrastructure-related issues and meet challenges.
  • Participate in and lead incident response efforts. After-hours support when business continuity is threatened is expected.
  • Evaluate emerging infrastructure technologies and recommend improvements aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Communicate infrastructure risks, impacts, and status clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
