Systems Engineer III

Scientific Research Corporation•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

Scientific Research Corporation (SRC) is seeking a Systems Engineer with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) experience to support United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) transition and infrastructure projects. These efforts include Redstone Transition Team activities, command and control facilities, data centers, and supporting C4IT infrastructure. The primary focus is developing and sustaining a digital engineering ecosystem that connects requirements, system architectures, interfaces, design information, and verification activities. Working with project managers, project engineers, functional leads, and government stakeholders, the engineer will help transition document-based practices into an integrated, traceable digital environment. The successful candidate will apply systems engineering principles across multiple projects, translate technical information into useful digital models, and help teams adopt practical digital engineering methods. The role also supports technical knowledge management, engineering information organization, tool integration, and systems engineering assistance for C4IT projects. It requires technical depth, adaptability, and the ability to introduce effective engineering practices while supporting ongoing project delivery. The position requires U.S. citizenship and a U.S. government security clearance at the Top Secret/SCI level. Travel may be up to 15 percent.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • At least five years of relevant systems engineering or digital engineering experience, including at least three years of hands-on MBSE experience.
  • Experience developing and maintaining system models using an established MBSE platform.
  • Working knowledge of systems modeling methods and languages such as SysML, and their application to requirements, architecture, behavior, interfaces, and verification.
  • Experience translating technical documents, stakeholder input, and engineering data into structured requirements and models.
  • Experience maintaining traceability among requirements, design information, and verification activities.
  • Understanding of systems engineering lifecycle practices, including requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, and verification and validation.
  • Ability to collaborate with project managers, project engineers, functional leads, and technical subject matter experts across concurrent efforts.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt engineering methods and tools to project needs and support adoption by teams with varying levels of digital engineering experience.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance at the Top Secret/SCI level.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting DoD projects involving headquarters transitions, command and control facilities, data centers, or enterprise C4IT infrastructure.
  • Experience establishing a digital engineering environment or migrating document-based engineering practices into an MBSE repository.
  • Experience with platforms such as Cameo/MagicDraw, Rhapsody, GENESYS, Innoslate, or Sparx Enterprise Architect.
  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as UAF or DoDAF.
  • Experience integrating MBSE platforms with requirements management, CAD, product lifecycle management, or collaboration systems.
  • Experience with engineering knowledge management, information architecture, metadata, configuration management, or technical repositories.
  • Experience with tools such as SharePoint, Confluence, Jira, Microsoft Teams, Power BI, Power Automate, or ServiceNow.
  • Experience reviewing facility drawings, network diagrams, interface documentation, or technical data packages.
  • Experience conducting model-based analyses, simulations, trade studies, or digital twin development.
  • Familiarity with integrated master schedules, work breakdown structures, and engineering risk management.
  • Industry-recognized certifications such as INCOSE ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP, or OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP).
  • Master’s degree in systems engineering or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, and maintain an MBSE environment supporting requirements management, architecture development, interface definition, and verification across the project lifecycle.
  • Work with project managers, project engineers, and functional leads to identify engineering information needs and establish modeling priorities.
  • Support evaluation, selection, implementation, and governance of digital engineering tools, modeling conventions, templates, and standards.
  • Assess existing documents, drawings, spreadsheets, and technical records, and migrate relevant information into structured, traceable digital repositories.
  • Facilitate requirements development, decomposition, validation, and baselining with technical and operational stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain bidirectional traceability among requirements, architectures, interfaces, design artifacts, and verification evidence.
  • Develop models describing system functions, components, behaviors, interfaces, dependencies, and operational context.
  • Review CAD drawings and technical data packages for alignment with system requirements, models, and interface definitions.
  • Support engineering assessments, trade studies, simulations, and testing to evaluate performance, validate assumptions, and inform design decisions.
  • Develop digital threads and support digital twin capabilities where appropriate to project objectives and available data.
  • Provide systems engineering support to project engineers on C4IT infrastructure, facility integration, and transition efforts.
  • Identify cross-system dependencies, integration risks, and technical gaps, and coordinate recommendations with responsible engineering leads.
  • Support technical reviews and develop verification matrices, assessment reports, and other engineering deliverables.
  • Organize engineering information, establish consistent metadata and document relationships, and improve access to authoritative technical resources.
  • Configure and integrate collaboration, knowledge management, and engineering tools to improve information sharing and reduce duplicate data entry.
  • Develop user guidance and assist teams with adopting digital engineering tools and workflows.
  • Link engineering information with project schedules, risks, work breakdown structures, and planning artifacts in coordination with project management.
  • Communicate technical findings, implementation priorities, and recommendations to project teams and government stakeholders.
  • Perform related systems engineering, knowledge management, and technical integration duties in support of program objectives.
