Systems Engineer II

Rosendin•Virginia, MN

About The Position

Rosendin is hiring a Systems Engineer II to design, develop, manage, start up, and commission turnkey power distribution systems for hyperscale data center campuses. The role focuses on power-system protection, control, and automation, working with internal teams, utilities, power plants, battery energy storage systems, vendors, and manufacturers to deliver reliable and resilient electrical systems. The engineer develops site-wide electrical distribution sequences of operation; specifies and evaluates equipment and vendor submittals; designs protection, automation, and interlock systems; and supports power-system failure and sequence-of-event analysis. Work is primarily indoors and includes sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, and bending. The role involves travel up to 25%, excluding local field visits, and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 8 years of engineering design experience in electrical power systems.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution systems, relaying, and automation systems.
  • In-depth working knowledge of equipment such as SEL-751, SEL-787, SEL-487E, SEL-2411, SEL-3350 RTAC, Siemens 7SX82/85, Siemens 7UT, and ABB REF615.
  • In-depth product knowledge of electrical power-system components, including emergency generators, transformers, switchgear, switchboards, automatic transfer switches, protective relays, UPS and DRUPS systems, motors, static transfer switches, PDUs, battery storage systems, inverters, PV systems, wind turbines, and substation equipment.
  • Ability to understand power-system studies and analyze time-current curves (TCCs).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a results-driven attitude.
  • Able to travel up to 25%, excluding local field visits.

Nice To Haves

  • Self-starting and eager to learn about new technologies and products.
  • Experience in power-system protection or automation control.
  • Experience in project management and working with vendors and manufacturers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop complete power-system protection and control during pre-construction, using protective relays or PLC/RTAC systems for automatic transfer schemes.
  • Design and develop site-wide electrical distribution sequences of operation to support system reliability and resiliency.
  • Coordinate power-system interfaces with utilities, turbine power plants, battery energy storage systems, or combinations of these.
  • Specify, evaluate, and review vendor and manufacturer submittals and equipment for conformance with system design requirements.
  • Conduct vendor coordination meetings to ensure systems and equipment work together properly.
  • Design and develop mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical interlock systems.
  • Work with internal teams to specify relays and instrument transformers for secure and dependable operation.
  • Design and develop system-wide automation using PLC or RTAC industrial controllers, including overload prevention, busway interlocks, load management, generator load curtailment, generator start and load controls, selective load pickup, and load-shedding schemes.
  • Design and develop protection and automation logic for SEL, ABB, Siemens, or GE relays.
  • Design and develop system protection and control architectures, including IEC 61850, mirrored bit, protection interface, Modbus, and DNP.
  • Conduct power-system failure and sequence-of-event analyses, and/or develop metering and triggering systems to capture events for analysis.
