About The Position

Our client, a world leader in biotechnology and gene therapy, is looking for a “Systems Engineer II” based in Santa Clara, CA. This role will work with the Single Molecule Sequencing platform to optimize workflows, perform wet-lab experiments, troubleshoot system and assay issues, and support verification and validation activities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 1–3+ years of relevant experience in science, engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
Hands-on experience with PCR, nucleic acid extraction, DNA sequencing, sample preparation, library preparation, and/or NGS.
Experience using Python, MATLAB, Git, or similar tools for data analysis or automation.
Knowledge of statistical analysis, including JMP, regression, and ANOVA.
Experience with Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical process control.
Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, data analysis, and technical documentation skills.

Responsibilities

Design, execute, analyze, and document experiments supporting NGS feasibility, development, integration, verification, and validation.
Perform nucleic acid extraction, sample preparation, library preparation, and sequencing experiments.
Optimize sequencing workflows and operating protocols.
Troubleshoot instrument, assay, and workflow failures using root cause analysis.
Develop and execute test cases based on product requirements.
Apply statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DoE) methods to interpret data and improve sequencing performance.
Collaborate with assay, instrumentation, software, bioinformatics, and systems engineering teams.
Maintain accurate laboratory records and support continuous improvement of sequencing performance, reliability, throughput, and reproducibility.
