About The Position

AquaPhoenix Scientific, headquartered in Hanover, PA has an immediate opening for a highly experienced Systems Engineer and Applications Architect to lead the design, configuration, implementation, automation, maintenance, and security of the Company’s enterprise cloud-based architecture built on Amazon Web Services. Includes managing applications, system requirements, functionality, risk/security, and the integration of various third-party platforms. Requires extensive experience building secure, scalable, highly available cloud environments and driving infrastructure modernization through automation and best practices. AquaPhoenix is a leading provider of reagents, industrial equipment and software solutions for the commercial water treatment industry, as well as a producer of STEM education kits. We are a fast-growing and expanding company with an ever-expanding footprint in the water treatment industry. The Systems Engineer and Applications Architect is an exempt-salary leadership position that reports directly to the Senior IT Manager. Remote work opportunities are anticipated; however, will require reasonable travel to company headquarters, manufacturing sites, and similar locations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 10–15 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering.
  • 5+ years of hands-on AWS Cloud Platform experience with deep working knowledge of programs software, and tools such as: Infrastructure: EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, EKS, ECS, Lambda, CloudFormation, Route 53, CloudWatch, Auto Scaling, ELB/ALB/NLB
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform, AWS CloudFormation
  • Automation: Python, Bash, PowerShell
  • Containers: Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS
  • CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions
  • Monitoring: CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Splunk, Datadog
  • Security: IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, Security Hub, GuardDuty, AWS Config
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, team and time management skills
  • Ability to utilize judgment in decision making process and decisions related to job tasks
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization.
  • Ability to persuade and influence others with a non-authoritative presence.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Architect secure, fault-tolerant, and scalable cloud infrastructure, including VPCs, networking, and storage, ensuring actions are aligned with business and technology strategies.
  • Implement security controls (IAM, KMS, encryption, RBAC) and ensuring adherence to standards (SOC2, GDPR), technical roadmaps, and best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to existing systems.
  • Design APIs, integration frameworks, and middleware solutions as required.
  • Implement automation using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation for automated provisioning.
  • Monitor system performance and optimize application availability, reliability, and scalability.
  • Perform capacity planning, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards, governance policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and application issues.
  • Lead technical reviews, architecture governance, and design documentation.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership across project teams.
  • Participate in project planning, budgeting, and vendor evaluations.
