About The Position

The main function of a systems engineer is to apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work. A typical systems engineer analyzes user needs, and then designs, tests, and develops software to meet those needs.

Requirements

  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Basic mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
  • Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery.
  • Knowledge and experience with Construction Equipment such as Articulated Dump Trucks, Hydraulic Excavators and Wheel Loaders.
  • Technical Excellence: Proven ability to work on production products through design, implementation, customer rollout, and support.
  • Ability to decompose complex customer requirements into achievable technical requirements for the systems that make up the product.
  • Knowledge and experience with Autonomous Systems, preferably a Cat Command system.
  • Experience with systems integration over CAN and Ethernet.
  • Soft Skills (Required): Influencing Through Expertise: Strong working knowledge of the Client Command ecosystem in mining or construction, or other centralized control system architectures which can be drawn upon for design proposals and decisions.
  • Constantly staying abreast of advancements in the Autonomy and mining industries.
  • Provides evidentiary support while giving opinions or recommendations to influence decision making.
  • Conducts tasks in such a way as to build a strong reputation and credibility as an expert in the field.
  • Effective Communications: Effectively communicates ideas and design tradeoffs to team members and stakeholders.
  • Willing to spend the time to document designs, requirements, and success criteria to ensure team member alignment.
  • Clearly explains project goals to team members, keeps leadership informed of progress, and shares relevant updates with external partners.
  • Uses data-driven arguments, active listening, and tailored messaging to persuade stakeholders and achieve consensus.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Proven experience as a Systems Engineer supporting product development teams focusing on developing autonomous machines, including the integration of software and hardware to deliver autonomous solutions.
  • Prior experience collaborating with systems integration and validation teams for engineering product development, including the validation of software and hardware to deliver autonomous solutions both in the lab and on machine.
  • Ability to decompose complex customer requirements into achievable technical requirements for the systems that make up the product.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issues.
  • Proven ability to work on production products through design, implementation, customer rollout, and support.
  • Effectively communicates ideas and design tradeoffs to team members and stakeholders.
  • Willing to spend the time to document designs, requirements, and success criteria to ensure team member alignment.
  • Clearly explains project goals to team members, keeps leadership informed of progress, and shares relevant updates with external partners.
