As a Systems Designer, you will develop, enhance, and support MAD’s portfolio of elevator products, including control panels/cabinets, communication systems, and displays. In your role, you will serve as the electrical design authority for product development and commercialization, owning electrical architecture and design decisions across the product portfolio. You will provide technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers, and act as the escalation point for complex electrical support to the Production and Technical Support teams, customers, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineer who can be trusted to make sound electrical decisions independently, lead and develop more junior engineers, and remain hands-on in design. They bring strong problem-solving and communication skills, a collaborative “can-do” attitude, and deep expertise in the design and application of electrical engineering in a regulated, safety-critical product environment.

Requirements

  • A Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, including senior or lead-level responsibility
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, with knowledge of common manufacturing processes for electrical products
  • Proven ownership of designs from concept to production
  • A blend of electrical and electronic experience, with a focus on integration of electronics into electrical systems/products
  • Strong knowledge of electrical installation and safety codes and standards (UL/CSA) as well as design techniques to proactively meet code requirements
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g. Ethernet and PoE, low-level CAN, RS-485, etc.), AC / DC power systems, batteries, relays, and controllers
  • Expertise applying industry best practices for design of wiring systems (wire sizing/gauge selection, proper connectors/terminals, and correct grounding/bonding) to ensure clean, code-compliant, safe, and serviceable installations
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership within a team
  • Strong analytical skills, highly logical problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail
  • Clear Background Checks – Criminal (required)
  • Eligible to work in Canada

Nice To Haves

  • Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status an asset
  • Prior experience with Jira, Confluence, AutoCAD, and Syspro preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical design and architecture of new products from concept through commercialization.
  • Own electrical calculations and design decisions related to power, load, conductor sizing, fusing, and component selection, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Select appropriate electrical components and electronics based on final product requirements.
  • Evaluate designs for reliability and safety in their intended operating environment (vibration, temperature, contamination, etc.).
  • Create and maintain accurate wiring schematics, panel layouts, and bills of material.
  • Develop technical documentation such as user manuals, installation/troubleshooting guides, standard operating procedures, and technical specifications.
  • Conduct and participate in design reviews to ensure quality, safety, manufacturability, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex electrical issues for customers, field technicians, and internal teams.
  • Work with customers and internal teams to design and develop custom electrical solutions.
  • Configure custom product application solutions, diagrams, and schematics for customers based on their requirements and specifications.
  • Provide advanced electrical support to the Production team, resolving manufacturing and assembly issues.
  • Provide root-cause analysis and corrective actions for complex electrical and product-related issues.
  • Mentor and develop junior and intermediate electrical engineers; provide design review and technical guidance.
  • Develop and deliver technical training programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of other employees.
