About The Position

Reporting to the I.T. Operations Manager, the Systems Administrator is responsible for supporting and optimizing the corporate IT infrastructure, spanning multiple offices and job sites. This role involves the design, deployment, management, and support of servers, storage solutions, networking, and security systems. Responsibilities include project management, performance tuning, security tasks, and technical support for infrastructure-related issues escalated from the Helpdesk.

Requirements

  • College diploma or University degree in Computer Science, Network Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of storage solutions, disaster recovery, and backup strategies.
  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in IT infrastructure.
  • Experience with modern technologies and best practices in IT infrastructure, including cloud services, virtualization, and automation.
  • Proficiency in Windows Server environments (Windows Server 2016+), Active Directory, and Microsoft Exchange.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Networking experience, including routing, VLANs, switching, firewalls, and wireless.
  • Strong understanding of IT security principles and practices.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
  • Keen attention to detail and strong documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco) are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and support servers, storage solutions, network infrastructure, security systems, and backup and recovery plans.
  • Manage file systems and disk space; assist with backup and recovery services.
  • Administer Exchange and other email servers, ensuring backups, restores, and maintenance activities are performed and verified.
  • Implement and support data security strategies including encryption, authentication, antivirus, spam filtering, and access control.
  • Ensure network infrastructure uptime, manage firewalls, and support all data communication.
  • Monitor system components to ensure integrity and availability; review logs and scheduled tasks.
  • Respond to security vulnerabilities, conduct threat analysis, implement security improvements, and perform patch management.
  • Apply OS updates, upgrade administrative tools, and configure new services.
  • Prepare contingency plans for service recovery and contribute to disaster recovery procedures.
  • Perform analysis and research to formulate technology solutions for complex business needs.
  • Develop and coordinate plans for implementing new services and upgrades.
  • Investigate and pilot new technology to enhance IT infrastructure.
  • Manage infrastructure capacity planning and performance monitoring.
  • Perform routine audits of systems and software.
  • Write scripts to automate tasks and streamline processes.
  • Provide support for escalated Helpdesk issues and act as a technical lead for helpdesk/field technicians.
  • Maintain operational support documentation, including network diagrams, configuration information, and procedures.
  • Participate in after-hours and weekend maintenance and problem resolution as required.
  • Occasional travel to branch offices and job sites as needed.
