About The Position

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking a Systems Administrator to manage, secure, and optimize its on-premises and cloud environments. This role is crucial for supporting the agency's statewide conservation mission by ensuring data integrity, network availability, and robust security. The Systems Administrator will be responsible for tasks such as patch management, configuring AWS cloud environments, and supporting agency operations to protect Arizona's wildlife. Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of experience in systems administration (or equivalent experience).
  • Thorough knowledge of desktop, server, network, hardware, and software systems.
  • Proficiency with Windows desktop, Unix/AIX/Windows server software, virtualization, network routers, and switches.
  • Superior customer service focus with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, absorb feedback, and adjust plans accordingly.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships, gauge customer technical competence levels, and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license.
  • Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with cloud patching solutions, AWS infrastructure (EC2, Route 53, load balancers), and AI platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, modify, maintain, and manage network infrastructure and system security.
  • Administer both on-premises and cloud environments, monitoring system health, performance, and availability.
  • Manage the agency SIEM, lead patch management efforts, and ensure overall data security and integrity.
  • Constantly evaluate hardware and networks, including cloud infrastructure (AWS EC2, Route 53, load balancers).
  • Respond to, troubleshoot, and resolve abnormal system behaviors and end-user technical situations.
  • Partner with the IT team to design, develop, and implement complex server environments and end-user access controls.
  • Establish and document hardware/software configurations and maintain strict change management processes.
  • Help develop and promote agency and statewide IT policies regarding desktop, server, network, and telecommunications systems.
  • Participate in project teams for software, server, and application solutions, and assist the commission meeting road team with technical setup/tear-down.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
