About The Position

Akima Systems Engineering is seeking a System Administrator (NetApp Specialist) to support operations at Shaw Air Force Base, SC. The System Administrator – NetApp Specialist provides Systems Administrator functions with foundational expertise in Windows/Linux environments and virtualization, complemented by hands-on exposure to NetApp ONTAP storage systems, snapshot technologies, and enterprise backup integration, aligned with DoD cybersecurity and RMF compliance requirements. The position requires coordination with Service Desk, Systems Administration, and Cybersecurity teams to ensure timely escalation and resolution of network-related tickets, as well as participation in outage response, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate in a high-tempo environment are essential. Excellent communication and customer service skills are required to support both technical teams and end users. The place of performance for this role is on-site at USARCENT G6 on Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 year of hands-on experience in enterprise storage administration, with strong focus on NetApp ONTAP systems.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • DOD NIPR/SIPR Experience.
  • Required / Baseline Certification: CompTIA Security+ CE (DoD 8570 / DoDD 8140 compliant – IAT Level II).

Nice To Haves

  • NetApp Certified Technology Associate (NCTA).
  • NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) – entry exposure level.
  • VMware VCTA or similar foundational cert.
  • Basic familiarity with: NetApp ONTAP environment (Clustered ONTAP preferred).
  • Storage concepts (NFS, CIFS/SMB, iSCSI).
  • Volume/LUN provisioning and snapshot technology.
  • Exposure to: NetApp System Manager or CLI.
  • SnapMirror / SnapVault (conceptual understanding).
  • Understanding of RAID, storage aggregation, and tiering concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Storage Area Network (SAN) servers for both the SIPRNET and NIPRNET. This task includes the day-to-day operation and maintenance of storage arrays, storage appliances, and associated fiber-channel switches and hardware. This task includes the management of the file share systems.
  • Perform back-ups and archiving of command servers identified in the Workload documentation. The Contractor shall maintain a year’s worth of weekly back-ups and three months of daily back-ups of all servers under designated responsibility. Also, application data as mandated by Department of Defense Instruction 8500.2 (DODI 8500.2) and NIST Special Publication 800-53 (SP 800-53).
  • Discuss any proposed or envisioned network changes with the USARCENT G6 leadership and the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
  • Implement, manage, and monitor data protection solutions using NetApp technologies such as SnapMirror, SnapVault, and Snapshot.
  • Monitor storage system performance, capacity, and health to ensure optimal availability and reliability. Proactively identify and address potential risks.
  • Perform firmware upgrades, patching, and lifecycle maintenance for NetApp hardware and software.
  • Provide Tier II/III troubleshooting support for storage-related issues. This includes interfacing with end-users and other technical teams to resolve problems, as well as managing and escalating support cases with NetApp Support for resolution of complex software bugs or hardware failures.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system configurations, storage layouts, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure the storage environment meets all organizational security standards and compliance requirements, including implementing encryption and access controls.
  • Work closely with server, network, and cyber teams to support system implementations, upgrades and resolve cross-functional issues.
  • Develop approaches and procedures, provide advice on complex NetApp issues, and evaluate and recommend new or enhanced approaches to delivering NetApp services.
  • Represent the organization in technical working groups and interactions with the USARCENT G6 and Regional Cyber Command (RCC) Southwest Asia.
  • Discuss any proposed or envisioned NetApp changes with the USARCENT G6 leadership and the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
  • Emergency Maintenance: During non-duty hours the Contractor shall be required to report to the duty site within two (2) hours of being notified of an automation problem that will impact ten or more users for more than two hours.
