About The Position

North Wind Services is seeking individuals to support national security within science, technology, and engineering fields as part of their supplemental labor team at federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. This role involves providing support for software operations, maintenance, and codebase update activities for a federal data management system used by state and local health laboratories across the United States. The position is short-term, with a maximum of 1000 hours per calendar year. Successful candidates will be employees of North Wind Services (NWS), a government contractor, and will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. NWS handles pay, benefits, and HR functions.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Able to meet pre-employment requirements including physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation for Department of Energy clearance.
  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and flexibility to adjust to changing deadlines.
  • Ability to execute sound judgments in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to collaborate in a team environment and document, present, and explain technical information.
  • Experience working with customers and handling issues with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Intermediate troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, consistent follow-through to ensure issue is resolved and policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ability to consistently follow procedural guidelines.
  • Experience developing and documenting work processes.
  • Experience administering, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and securing Windows and Mac Linux hardware, software, applications, and operating systems.
  • Ability to maintain component configurations and inspect computer and network hardware.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with LLNL, DOE, and NNSA cyber security policies, procedures, and implementations.
  • Knowledge of computer security concepts and practices for one or more common operating systems (e.g., Windows, Mac, or Linux).
  • Information security training.

Responsibilities

  • IT support for data management and analytics systems, including developing new features and performing required updates to current features.
  • Knowledge transfer and consultation activities for current LLNL staff leading data management system capabilities.
  • Occasionally interface and coordinate with the project Sponsor to resolve issues or explain legacy systems.
  • Support efforts to produce required project documentation, such as updates to user manuals.
