About The Position

Patriot, LLC is looking for a UNIX/LINUX Systems Administrator to join our mission critical team in Research Triangle Park. The candidate will work as a member of an enterprise support team and provide local site support for Red Hat Linux servers and workstations. Install new/rebuild existing Red Hat servers and workstations. Configure server and workstation hardware, peripherals, services, SAN storage and local storage, perform backups and restoration in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Write bash and Ansible scripts to automate system administration and maintenance tasks. Install vendor software and scientific open-source packages. Apply Red Hat and other software patches / updates. Write and review IT policies and procedures for both use and security. Responsible for evaluating new hardware and software needs along with associated costs. Create and maintain computer system network topography diagrams. Work with management to ensure compliance with security protocols. Maintain documentation on the operations and configurations. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization. Candidate may perform a variety of systems engineering tasks and activities that are broad in nature and involve major systems design, integration, and implementation, including personnel, hardware, software, budgetary, and support facilities and/or equipment. Candidate will provide quality assurance review and the evaluation of new and existing software products.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Red Hat Linux Operating Systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including, but not limited to, procedures and technical topics
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work and learn independently
  • Can-do attitude is critical, detail-oriented, strong work ethic and a team player.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of experience as a system administrator of UNIX / Red Hat Linux operating systems Release 8/9
  • Strong team skills and customer support with a background handling complex hardware and software systems
  • SAN storage configuration experience with LVM on the Linux servers
  • Excellent computer and customer service skills, efficient organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent knowledge of server hardware with experience installing/replacing hard disks and RAM on server hardware
  • Technically proficient at installing, configuring, and maintaining UNIX (both in a physical and virtual environment)
  • Knowledge of SAMBA, Kerberos, AD, Veritas NetBackup, Nagios, ESXi VMWare.
  • Experience with writing scripts (bash, Perl and Ansible) to automate administration functions
  • Experience utilizing DOD Security Technical Implementation Guides STIG highly desired.
  • Previous experience performing vulnerability scanning and remediation techniques preferred.
  • Knowledge of Ansible, Puppet desired.
  • Knowledge of Nagios desired
  • Knowledge of Red Hat Satellite desired
  • ITIL version 3 is a plus
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator is a plus
