About The Position

Empower AI is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator (SA) to provide on-site SA services to offices in the NCR for the Department of State. The role involves managing assets and operations to support the customer's mission of providing IT services to DoS users enterprise-wide. This includes the installation, maintenance, and proactive monitoring of hardware and applications, managing security patches, updates, and databases, and enforcing security controls in alignment with DoS policies. The SA will ensure the confidentiality, integrity, availability, efficiency, and effectiveness of systems, software, hardware, and data, provide technical support, execute data backups and restores, and coordinate hardware/software upgrades. Responsibilities also include logging and resolving incidents and service requests, documenting configuration changes, monitoring system performance, maintaining documentation, providing status reports, managing project coordination, and notifying management of risks affecting IT services.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Bachelor's in IT or related field
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer
  • Secret Security Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Manage the installation, maintenance, and proactive monitoring of hardware (servers, network switches, routers, workstations, hard drives, driver license readers, barcode readers, printers, digital scanners, etc.) and all customer applications (e.g., AD, System Center Configuration Manager/Post Administration Tool, Travel Document Issuance System, Passport Records Imaging System Management, Automated Cash Register System, and other locally installed customer applications).
  • Manage security and vendor patches, updates, vSphere Installation Bundles (VIBs), and Oracle/SQL databases.
  • Enforce security controls in alignment with DoS policies, including AD administration (user accounts / privileges), vSphere/OS remediation, and security compliance tools.
  • Ensure confidentiality, integrity, availability, efficiency, and effectiveness of systems, software, hardware, and data.
  • Provide technical support for testing and evaluation.
  • Execute regular data backups, restores, and purging procedures to ensure data availability.
  • Coordinate hardware/software upgrades, consolidations, and equipment retirements.
  • Log, manage and resolve all incidents and service requests in the Ticket Management System (currently Service Now).
  • Initiate, track, and document all configuration changes for hardware, software, and permissions.
  • Monitor system performance for anomalies.
  • Maintain current site topology diagrams, system configurations, and comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Provide regular status reporting on all SA activities.
  • Manage internal project coordination.
  • Promptly notify management of risks (e.g., power outages, environmental issues) affecting IT services.
