About The Position

The Future Operations Virtualization Systems Administrator will support the operation, maintenance, and modernization of infrastructure within a LAB/FUOPs environment. The primary focus of this position is administering VMware virtualization technologies, including VMware ESXi 7 and 8 and vSphere/vCenter 8, running on a FlexPod infrastructure composed of NetApp ONTAP storage, Cisco Unified Computing System hardware, Cisco UCS Manager, and Broadcom/VMware hypervisors. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of virtualization principles beyond a specific vendor or product. Foundational knowledge of containerization and other infrastructure platforms is important so the administrator can support future technology transitions and platform modernization efforts. This position requires hands-on collaboration across virtualization, compute, storage, networking, Linux, and security disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in computer science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or Software Engineering
  • 0 years of experience with BS/BA
  • 2 years of experience with AA/AS
  • 4 years of experience with no degree
  • DoW 8140 Compliance – CompTIA Security+ or Cloud+, GICSP, GSEC, Systems Security Certified Practitioner
  • Active Secret US security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, administer, and maintain VMware ESXi 7 and 8 hosts, vSphere/vCenter 8, clusters, and virtual machines.
  • Manage virtual infrastructure components, including templates, resource pools, datastores, standard and distributed virtual switches, and content libraries.
  • Support VMware capabilities such as vMotion, Storage vMotion, High Availability, Distributed Resource Scheduler, host profiles, and role-based access control.
  • Perform system patching, upgrades, certificate maintenance, and lifecycle-management activities for ESXi hosts, vCenter, and related VMware components.
  • Monitor and optimize virtual infrastructure performance, capacity, resource utilization, availability, and stability.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving virtual machines, hypervisors, virtual networking, storage connectivity, physical servers, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Plan and support workload migrations, technology refreshes, and transitions between test, lab, and operational environments.
  • Apply platform-independent virtualization concepts to support the evaluation or adoption of alternate hypervisors, private-cloud platforms, or container-based solutions.
  • Perform foundational-to-intermediate Cisco UCS administration using Cisco UCS Manager.
  • Support Cisco UCS components and configurations, including chassis, servers, Fabric Interconnects, service profiles, server pools, vNICs, VLANs, policies, and firmware packages.
  • Assist with physical server provisioning, hardware replacement, firmware updates, health monitoring, and fault isolation.
  • Perform foundational-to-intermediate administration and troubleshooting of NetApp systems running ONTAP.
  • Support storage components and concepts such as Storage Virtual Machines, aggregates, volumes, LUNs, NFS datastores, snapshots, multipathing, and capacity monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure issues across the compute, storage, network, and virtualization layers.
  • Coordinate infrastructure changes with compute, storage, network, security, and application teams.
  • Provide foundational-to-intermediate Layer 2 and basic Layer 3 network support.
  • Support Cisco Nexus 9000-series switches in various form factors and configurations.
  • Configure or troubleshoot VLANs, access and trunk ports, port channels, Spanning Tree Protocol, MTU settings, NIC teaming, and virtual-switch uplinks.
  • Apply working knowledge of IPv4 addressing, subnetting, default gateways, static routes, inter-VLAN connectivity, DNS, and network time synchronization.
  • Diagnose connectivity, packet loss, latency, VLAN, routing, DNS, MTU, and physical-link issues affecting virtualized systems.
  • Collaborate with network engineering teams on changes or incidents requiring advanced switching, routing, or data-center fabric expertise.
