About The Position

Installs, modifies, troubleshoots, makes minor repairs to computer hardware, software systems, and office equipment and Provides technical assistance and training to system users.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related filed AND; Two (2) years’ experience with Windows and relevant software applications.
  • Directly related experience may substitute for degree.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s license, proof of current insurance and willingness to use personal vehicle.
  • Driver’s license is an essential requirement for performing duties for this position.
  • Motor Vehicle Record - no more than 2 moving violations or a license suspension in past 3 years.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow system and software documentation.
  • Thorough knowledge of Windows 2000 and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiar with Local Area Network operating systems, Specifically Server 2000.
  • Familiar with uses of parallel, serial and straight-through cables.
  • Ability to configure communications software and perform basic modem trouble-shooting when necessary.
  • Experience or the ability to develop a working knowledge of image page scanners.

Responsibilities

  • Purchases computer and related hardware and software.
  • Installs hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, fax machines, telephones, network interface cards, network software and disk drives on user's premises.
  • Installs Windows software applications and sets up program groups as necessary.
  • Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing, or spreadsheet programs into computer.
  • Enters commands and observes system functions to verify correct system operation.
  • Instructs user in use of equipment, software, and manuals.
  • Replaces defective or inadequate hardware and software packages.
  • Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction.
  • Calls software and hardware vendors to request service regarding defective products.
  • Coordinates implementation of vendor issued security software update.
  • Develops, coordinates implementation of, and tests plan to continue establishment data processing activities at off-site location in case of emergency, such as fire, at main site.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and enhances the network, e-mail, and related communications systems.
  • Maintains and sets up teleconferencing equipment.
  • Assigns and updates computer access passwords to staff.
  • Responds to staff inquiries in person and via telephone concerning systems operation.
  • Diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems and provides appropriate explanations/instruction to users and determines whether problem is caused by hardware such as printer, cables, or telephone.
  • Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct problems based on knowledge of system operation.
  • Provides general assistance to staff via telephone or in person inquiring how to use specific software such as statistical, graphics, data base, printing, word processing, programming languages, electronic mail, and operating systems.
  • Advises Supervisors and staff on the status of work orders, system issues, etc.
  • Reviews staff violations of computer security procedures and reports violations to user department managers to ensure that violation is not repeated.
  • Identifies hardware-related problems and report it to the Vice President of IS.
  • Research and recommend enhancements to network, e-mail, and related communications systems.
  • Installs, learns and evaluates new software and provides appropriate reports to Vice President of IS.
  • Performs related duties as assigned in accordance with agency growth and change.
