About The Position

Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a subsidiary of Medavie Health Services (MHS) that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport, and medical communications in Nova Scotia. EMC also operates TeleHealth/811 for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The company utilizes a fleet of over 180 ambulances and support vehicles operating from more than 60 stations, responding to over 165,000 calls annually. The EHS Operations LifeFlight program provides critical care transport via helicopter, fixed wing, or ground ambulance. Paramedics in Nova Scotia also participate in various community programs. The System Support Technician Logistics (SSTL) is a crucial member of the team responsible for providing logistical support to the EHS system, ensuring optimal customer service and patient care. The SSTL will also perform maintenance and repairs at provincial Paramedic Base/Stations and assist in managing medical supplies for these locations. A high standard of cleanliness and safe, prudent conduct are expected. The SSTL ensures paramedic Base/Stations are adequately stocked with medical supplies and equipment and are maintained in safe, operational condition according to EMC and EHS policies. As an EMC employee, accountability to patients and coworkers includes participation in safety initiatives and fostering a culture of patient and workplace safety. SSTLs typically work a standard five-day week, providing mobile support to designated operational regions. Irregular hours and overtime may be necessary due to operational demands or emergencies.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Class 4 Driver’s License in good standing or willingness to obtain and maintain one (Class 5 accepted upon hire).
  • Possesses WHIMIS, First Aid, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Fall Arrest/Protection certification, or willingness to obtain and maintain them.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good decision-making skills and initiative.
  • Ability to lift upwards of 50lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Operates all system vehicles in accordance with EMC and EHS policies.
  • Maintains and ensures proper documentation for EHS supply chain, materials management, and facility inspection aspects as directed by the Manager, Logistics & Materials Management.
  • Ensures all paramedic supply Base/Stations and designated hospitals are kept stocked as per established inventory supply levels.
  • Inspects paramedic Base/Stations for deficiencies and completes light facility repairs as directed.
  • Complies with all existing EMC System Support Safe Work Practices (SWP) and other Company policies and procedures.
  • Completes required paramedic Base/Station facilities repairs, including station cleaning, painting, yard maintenance, lighting repairs, and general maintenance.
  • Ensures Logistics system vehicles are maintained, stocked, and ready according to EMC System Support Policy and Procedures.
  • Conducts required cleaning of Logistics vehicle interiors and exteriors in accordance with proper decontamination policies.
  • Maintains ongoing cleanliness of the Logistics Central Stock facility during scheduled shifts.
  • Practices good hygiene and demonstrates socially acceptable skills and graces when interacting with vendors, colleagues, paramedics, and the public.
  • Performs other similar, comparable, or related duties as may be required or assigned.
  • Takes operational instruction and direction from the Manager, Logistics & Materials Management, and the Logistics Supervisor and/or Team Lead.
  • May be required to periodically back-fill the Fleet System Support Technician (SST) role.
