System Software Engineer - Trusted Firmware

NVIDIA•Santa Clara, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

NVIDIA is hiring a System Software Engineer for its Tegra team in Santa Clara, California. The role focuses on designing and developing system software for ARM’s Trusted Firmware Stack and contributing to advanced CPU architecture for the Tegra platform. The engineer will work across firmware and system software interfaces, including early boot, EL3 runtime services, power management, operating systems, and hypervisors. The position also involves building agentic workflows and reusable tools for trusted firmware engineering. These workflows may support codebase exploration, change planning, implementation, bring-up, debugging, testing, and documentation, connecting AI assistants to approved engineering context and systems. The engineer will define validation and review processes for AI-assisted work and assess generated changes for correctness, security, reliability, and maintainability. The role includes working with the upstream community on emerging ARM technologies, including Confidential Compute, and contributing to improvements in specifications such as PSCI, FFA, and RMI. It also involves architectural explorations, feasibility studies, safety evaluations, and CPU performance analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of system software development experience.
  • Strong software engineering experience in C or C++ and ability to debug low-level software.
  • Experience developing or integrating firmware, embedded software, kernel-level software, or other hardware-adjacent system software.
  • Deep understanding of operating system fundamentals and computer architecture concepts, including MMU, cache coherency, TLB, timers, and ISRs.
  • Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools for software engineering tasks such as firmware debugging, regression triage, log analysis, test generation, and technical research.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of safety and security standards such as ISO 26262, CERT-C, and MISRA-C.
  • Experience building AI agents or engineering assistants using retrieval-augmented generation, tool use or function calling, agent skills, or multi-step orchestration.

Responsibilities

  • Design, craft, and develop system software relevant to ARM’s Trusted Firmware Stack.
  • Build and improve agentic workflows for trusted firmware engineering, including codebase exploration, change planning, implementation support, bring-up, debugging, test execution, and documentation.
  • Create reusable workflow components, tools, or skills connecting AI assistants to approved engineering context and systems, including source repositories, technical documentation, issue trackers, build environments, and test infrastructure.
  • Define validation and review steps for AI-assisted work and evaluate generated changes and results for correctness, security, reliability, and maintainability before integration.
  • Work across firmware and system software interfaces, including early boot, EL3 runtime services, power management, operating systems, and hypervisors.
  • Contribute to sophisticated and next-generation CPU architecture for the Tegra platform.
  • Work with the upstream community to develop software for new ARM technologies such as Confidential Compute and help improve specifications such as PSCI, FFA, and RMI.
  • Participate in architectural explorations, including feasibility studies, safety evaluations, and CPU performance analysis.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Equity and benefits.
