System Security Engineer, Space

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA
•$183,000 - $243,000

About The Position

Anduril is hiring a Systems Security Engineer to serve as the technical security authority for one or more space programs. The role owns end-to-end security architecture across spacecraft, payload, command and telemetry links, ground systems, user segments, and supporting supply chains. It works directly with subsystem Responsible Engineers and Government customers to ensure systems withstand relevant threats and can demonstrate security at each program milestone. This is an engineering role focused on making systems secure, rather than administering Risk Management Framework paperwork or accreditation packages. The engineer translates customer needs, threat intelligence, and mission requirements into architectures and buildable subsystem requirements; verifies implementations; and supports the system from customer need through on-orbit operations. The role has ownership of security decisions and contributes to trade-offs involving security, schedule, mass, power, and cost. It also partners with ISSOs and ISSMs so that design decisions support accreditation.

Requirements

  • Experience designing security architectures for complex, multi-segment systems, including spacecraft bus, payload, ground segment, and RF/comms links.
  • Ability to decompose system-level security architecture into subsystem-level requirements that engineering teams can build and test against.
  • Hands-on understanding of threat modeling and ability to translate threat intelligence into concrete design decisions.
  • Experience working across flight software, avionics, RF/comms, and ground systems, with enough technical depth to work effectively with subsystem Responsible Engineers.
  • Familiarity with the full system lifecycle from requirements through verification and on-orbit operations.
  • Experience with supply chain security as it applies to space or defense systems.
  • Ability to make and defend engineering trade-offs involving security, schedule, mass, power, or cost.
  • Direct experience working with U.S. Government customers on classified or sensitive programs.
  • Active security clearance. The posting says the level is not explicitly specified; its reference to TS/SCI is presented as contextual speculation, not a stated requirement.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging program leadership and customers.
  • CCNP certification or equivalent advanced networking credential.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end security architecture for assigned space systems across space, ground, link, and user segments.
  • Derive security requirements from customer needs, threat assessments, and applicable space security policy, and flow them down to subsystem specifications.
  • Design protections for command and telemetry links, including authentication, encryption, anti-replay, and key management approaches.
  • Define onboard security foundations, including secure boot, hardware roots of trust, firmware and software integrity, memory protection, and secure update paths for systems that cannot be physically accessed after launch.
  • Build and maintain mission-wide threat models and attack trees, and use them to drive design decisions.
  • Partner with flight software, avionics, RF, and ground Responsible Engineers to implement security requirements and review designs and code.
  • Develop and run security verification at unit, subsystem, flatsat, spacecraft, and end-to-end ground-segment integration levels.
  • Work with internal and external red teams and assessment teams to identify weaknesses in products and integrated third-party components, and drive fixes to closure.
  • Assess supplier hardware and software for supply chain risk and define security requirements for vendors.
  • Own security content at major milestones, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and PSR.
  • Brief security architectures to Government customers, program leadership, and technical reviewers, adjusting detail for each audience.
  • Partner with ISSOs and ISSMs so design decisions support accreditation.
  • Help build reusable security patterns, reference architectures, and tooling across Anduril space programs.
  • Make and defend engineering trade-offs when security competes with schedule, mass, power, or cost.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of total compensation.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
