System Safety Technical Analyst, Human Spaceflight (Remote)

ARES Corporation•Centennial, CO
•$110,000 - $190,000•Remote

About The Position

ARES Corporation seeks a technically strong System Safety Technical Analyst to support Blue Origin’s Lunar program. The role centers on technical evaluation of vehicle components, subsystems, and systems across requirements, design, build, integration, test, and operation. The analyst reviews system documentation and evidence to understand how hardware, software, and interfaces function, fail, and are verified. The position supports hazard report development, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), failure-tolerance assessments and exemptions, and related NASA and commercial space safety work. The analyst collaborates with Blue Origin subsystem engineers, systems engineers, and integration teams, contributes to safety and mission assurance activities for lunar lander systems, and produces clear technical assessments. Well-qualified remote candidates will be considered; candidates local to the Denver metro area who are willing to work a hybrid schedule are preferred.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in aerospace systems, subsystems engineering, design, analysis, integration, or test.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating or working with aerospace vehicle systems or subsystems, or high-reliability aerospace hardware/software.
  • Ability to review requirements documents, schematics, interface definitions, analyses, and test data and understand system operation, risks, gaps, and verification.
  • Experience with systems engineering principles, including requirements decomposition and traceability, interface management, verification and validation, and design reviews.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills, including the ability to document findings clearly and engage with customer engineering teams.
  • Ability to work independently on technical evaluations, collaborate in a team environment, and learn new processes quickly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting commercial space, lunar lander, or human spaceflight programs, such as Blue Origin, Artemis-related programs, Commercial Crew, or similar.
  • Hands-on or detailed review experience in a major vehicle discipline, such as propulsion/fluids, avionics/electrical, structures/mechanisms, thermal, power, GNC, or software-intensive systems.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as Jama, DOORS, or equivalent; interface control documents; or model-based systems engineering concepts.
  • Background in integration and test, qualification testing, or failure investigation on aerospace hardware.
  • Experience with system safety, reliability, or hazard analysis concepts, including FTA, FMECA, or failure-tolerance evaluations.
  • Experience reviewing designs against NASA human-rating requirements, such as NPR 8705.2 or NASA-STD-8719.29, or related NASA system safety guidelines.
  • Human spaceflight, lunar, or high-reliability launch/spacecraft systems experience.

Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluate assigned vehicle subsystems by reviewing requirements, design documentation, schematics, interface control documents, analyses, and test plans.
  • Assess requirements traceability, design implementation, and verification evidence, identifying technical gaps, interface issues, and verification shortfalls relevant to safety and performance.
  • Support hazard analyses, hazard reports, and related safety products by identifying hazards, causal factors, controls, and mitigations based on design and operational knowledge.
  • Contribute to Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), FMECA, and failure-tolerance assessments, including reviews of failure-tolerance exemptions and single-point failure rationales.
  • Work with Blue Origin subsystem engineers, systems engineers, and integration teams to obtain technical information, ask clarifying questions, and present findings in reviews.
  • Contribute to safety and mission assurance activities for lunar lander systems in accordance with applicable NASA technical standards and guidelines.
  • Produce clear technical assessments and supporting documentation.
  • Learn and apply system safety processes and standards, including hazard report structure, FTA/FMECA methods, verification of controls, and failure-tolerance criteria.
