About The Position

KBR is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join their team in El Segundo, CA. This role is crucial for the MILSATCOM Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (MSEIT) contract, supporting the development of next-generation space communication systems for the US Space Force. The position involves Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) activities in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment, interfacing with various stakeholders including government personnel and contractors. The engineer will support working groups focused on technical discussions, risk identification, requirements gap analysis, and documentation. KBR's MSEIT effort provides advanced SE&I for the Space Force’s Space Systems Center (SSC), supporting the acquisition of secure, survivable, and protected military satellite communication systems. The role is ideal for individuals who thrive in collaborative, small-team environments and are adept at using modern tools and methodologies to integrate complex space and ground communication systems.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance is required for this position
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years’ experience in systems engineering
  • 1+ years’ experience in Systems Safety engineering, to include System Safety Engineering practices, techniques, and procedures and working with System Safety military standards and regulations
  • Ability to coordinate with numerous stakeholders and customers
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable working and interfacing with diverse personnel and working in a dynamic team environment
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field, such as engineering, mathematics, physics, or computer science
  • Certifications in Systems Engineering (INCOSE ESEP, CSEP)
  • Knowledge and experience in Jira and Confluence
  • Experience with MILSATCOM, such as AEHF, EPS, WGS, PTES, PTS, and FAB-T terminal programs
  • Experience working with military and DoD civilian clients
  • Experience and familiarity working on a government space systems program
  • Experience working on a Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) contract
  • Active Secret Clearance or higher

Responsibilities

  • Support the MSEIT System Safety Government Team by evaluating ESOH risks identified by the government, contractors, or other stakeholders, preparing ESOH documents and providing system safety support for Space Flight Worthiness certification
  • Document, perform, and execute changes to Government System Safety documents
  • Review and participate in government evaluations of contractor documentation to hazard analyses, mitigation strategies, and safety assessments, as well as advise the government team
  • Perform safety risk assessments in accordance with MSEIT Program and Space Force guidance documents and prepare safety risk assessments for acceptance or for further mitigation.
  • Prepare documents including but not limited to: Programmatic Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Evaluation (PESHE), Space Debris Assessment Report/End of Life Plan (SDAR/EOLP) for space vehicles, and Environmental Analysis for ground system
  • Prepare and support the System Safety elements of the space vehicle Space Flight Worthiness certification
  • Collaborating with prime contractors, other support contractors, government civilians, and members of the U.S. Space Force
